Betting Jake Paul

The 27-year-old influencer-wannabe boxer will be going up against one of the greatest and dirtiest players in the game. Then again, Paul is 30 years younger than Tyson, so it stands to reason that the top sportsbooks online would favor him.

“The Problem Child” has a spring in his step. He be pumping his jab and following up with thrusting hooks and overhands. Tyson is smart enough to see through that strategy but Paul, who is full of piss and vinegar, might just be able to get the best of Tyson with sheer volume and cardio.

Paul is coming off a couple of first-round KOs of active boxers: Ryan Bourland and Andre August (the proverbial low-hanging fruit, as it were). Before that, Paul’s prior opponents included retired MMA stars and a retired basketball player.

He has a record of 9-1, his single loss taking place against British reality TV star Tommy Fury, whose half-brother is current WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Of course, if we start bringing up brothers, we would have to mention — but you know what, some things are better left unsaid.

The early odds have Paul as heavy chalk, no doubt because of the age difference. Tyson will have turned 58 years old by the time of the fight. In combat sports, the passage of time is often the greatest foe of all.

“[Jake Paul] is in the ring with a dude who did that for a living! If you [Skip Bayless] get on a football field with me, it will not be the same, because I did that for a living. If I try to be a journalist like you all the time, you’ll probably win. But, he is going up against a guy that all he did for his life … was box,” said Keyshawn Johnson. “I don’t know Jake Paul’s chin level, I don’t know if he can take a shot or whatever the case may be, but Mike Tyson is not going to lose to him.”

Betting Mike Tyson

The last time that we saw “Iron” Mike in a fight was in 2020 in an eight-round exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr. that bout in a draw. We did see some old-school Tyson, although with less bite if you know what we mean and we think you do.

Tyson is thick and compact (Paul is going to have a five-inch reach edge), but he has always used his stature to his advantage. The former champ has a penchant for ducking, getting in tight, and throwing blows to the body. You can count on him using that strategy with Paul.

Tyson has the record for the youngest heavyweight champion. He last competed in an eight-round exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. Iron Mike is one of the most fearsome fighters in the history of the sport. He holds a professional record of 50-6 with 44 KOs.

Tyson has said: “I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul. He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. It’s a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him.”

Tyson was named Fighter of the Year in 1986 and 1988 by The Ring magazine. A 1998 ranking of “The Greatest Heavyweights of All-Time” by that magazine ranked Tyson at No. 14 on the list. In spite of criticism that he faced underwhelming competitors in his run the champion, Tyson’s punching power and ring presence turned him into the sport’s biggest box office draw.

He wore black trunks, black shoes with no socks, and a plain white towel around his neck in lieu of a traditional robe. He had a habit of quickly pacing around the ring before a fight. At his peak, Tyson seldom backed down and he had never been knocked down.

Martial Arts World Report gave Tyson an Honorable Mention in its Ten Greatest Heavyweights of All Time list as opposed to a ranking because they factored in longevity and Tyson’s prime lasted approximately five years.
