The New Mexico Lobos are favored at the top online sportsbooks as they host the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners on Saturday, December 17th on ESPN. This should be a high scoring betting game as the Roadrunners averaged 30 points per game while the Lobos averaged about 38 points per contest. New Mexico is listed as a touchdown favorite with the total at 63. Let’s look at the matchup and New Mexico Bowl picks.

The Roadrunners visit the Lobos on Saturday, December 17th with a start time of 2 pm Eastern on ESPN.

New Mexico Bowl Odds

New Mexico -7, total 63

Roadrunners vs. Lobos

Both head coaches believe that the opposing team’s offense is outstanding so a lot of points should be scored. New Mexico head coach Bob Davie said that the offense for Texas-San Antonio is similar to the offense of Colorado State while the UTSA head coach Frank Wilson said his team has not faced an offense as good as New Mexico’s all sports betting season.

“Kind of a combination of (former Rams coach) Jim McElwain and (current CSU coach) Mike Bobo, the last two Colorado State offenses,” Davie said. “It reminds me a lot of that. … That’s given us problems.” The Lobos are 0-5 under Davie against CSU and they have given up 45 points per game.

Texas-San Antonio will change their offense based on the situation. “When we need to go into zone read or a three-by-one set, we’ll get in that,” Wilson said. “We vary game to game, based on the things we need to do to win the football game.” UTSA has run the ball 58% of the time this sportsbook betting season.

That is not the case with New Mexico who will run the ball on nearly every play. The Lobos were the top running team in the country, averaging 360.9 yards per game. “It’s a tremendous challenge,” Wilson said. “… It’s a pretty dominant offense. It requires our team to be extremely disciplined in their assignments.”

College Football Odds

History has shown that points are plentiful in the New Mexico Bowl as in the previous ten games to bet  the teams have combined to average 62 points per game.

The Roadrunners are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Roadrunners are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Lobos are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Lobos are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 vs. CUSA. New Mexico

The Under is 11-5 in the Roadrunners last 16 games following an ATS win. The Over is 6-0 in the Lobos last 6 non-conference games. The Over is 4-0 in the Lobos last 4 neutral site games. The Over is 12-2 in the Lobos last 14 games overall. The Under is 7-3 in the Lobos last 10 vs. CUSA.

New Mexico Picks

The Roadrunners are not going to stop the Lobos but New Mexico may have trouble slowing down Texas-San Antonio. I will avoid a side and just take this game over the total.
