The words “legal betting sites” may seem oxymoronic to the uninitiated. To them, it would appear as if only Native Americans to operate gambling establishments. They would have reservations (wink wink nudge nudge) about placing a wager with a bookie of any other ethnicity. These things are only partially true. The fact of the matter is that there used to be a law known as the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992. Aka PASPA. Aka the Bradley Act. This act outlawed sports betting nationwide in the United States of America. With a few exceptions. Such as sports lotteries conducted in Oregon, Delaware, and Montana. And the licensed sports pools in Nevada. This was a sad state of affairs. Until the state of New Jersey said “screw this noise.” Like Owen ‘The Rocket’ Hart, that great state decided enough was enough and it was time for a change. New Jersey took it upon itself to avenge Sonny Curtis, Bobby Fuller, and The Clash. State governor Philip D. Murphy fought the law. And he won. Actually, we’re all winners here. In May of this year, the Supreme Court of the USA ruled that PASPA violated the Tenth Amendment. As a result, legal sports betting has been expanded in America. No one has to wonder anymore whether the phrase “legal betting sites” is a contradiction in terms. On the contrary, there are plenty of websites where one can procure oneself with some legal betting.

Top Legal Betting Sites in America

Are all the betting sites legal?

Now keep one thing in mind. The overruling of PASPA doesn’t automatically mean that sports betting is legal everywhere. It means that every state of the Union is now free to legalize it or not. A handful of states have already jumped on the bandwagon. The rest will eventually come around. Legal sports betting is currently up and running in Delaware, New Jersey, Mississippi and West Virginia. And Pennsylvania has passed laws, though there are no active sportsbooks as of yet. Additionally, online casino games and/or online poker is legal in Delaware, Nevada, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. All of which is well and good.

But we have to keep fighting the good fight. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 is still in effect. UIGEA is also known by its long title. An Act to prevent the use of certain payment instruments, credit cards, and fund transfers for unlawful Internet gambling, and for other purposes. There are many reasons to come to the United States.

This ain’t one of them, as it only applies to residents of the US. Whatever happened to the American Dream? And I don’t mean Dusty Rhodes either. Thankfully, the law is more flexible than a Rumanian teenage gymnast. It can be bent in a number of ways. And the best part is there are no awkward silences or little to talk about except for deposed dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu. Savvy gamblers can use an e-money transfer service used to transfer money to and from merchants. For instance Neteller, which can withdraw funds directly using the Net+ card or transfer the balance to their own bank accounts. Neteller started processing online gambling payments in July 2000.

It was processing payments for 85 percent of the world’s gambling merchants. Almost 100 percent of the firm’s revenue at that time was derived from fund transfers to online gaming firms, with many users being residents of the USA. We have been discussing American laws. Each country deals with sports betting and online gambling differently. For example, Albania, Cambodia, Canada, Hong Kong, Israel, Laos, Lebanon, Macau, Singapore, and Turkey are not permitted to make transfers to gambling merchants. In other words, residents of those countries are not allowed to use Neteller for wagering purposes.

But as you can see, the United States is not on that list. Using Neteller carries with it an extra expenditure. But that is the price to pay in order to abide the law. Like at the end of The Big Lebowski, where Jeff Bridges says, “The Dude abides.” So be like the Dude. Bowl a few lanes. Have a few white Russians. And abide the law. Use legal betting sites.
