Garcia is the top contender at 135 pounds, but it is not hard to see why “Tank” is a slight favorite at the top US sportsbooks. The clash between Garcia and Davis, two of the most dynamic sluggers in the world, will take place in Las Vegas on April 22.

Betting Gervonta Davis
Gervonta Davis last boxed on May 28, 2022. That was a KO win against Rolando Romero. Garcia beat Javier Fortuna on July 16. Garcia is in uncharted territory as the best online sportsbooks’ underdog. The 23-year-old has gone into his most recent fights at -1200, -2000, and -350, respectively.
With a 23-0 record, the California native looked at home in his matchups. The odds are a reflection of that. It is worth wondering how the concept of fighting as the underdog will add, mentally, to the already tough physical challenge of going up against Davis.
As far as the odds go, Davis is more ready for a formidable foe such as Garcia. The 28-year-old was favored in all his most recent bouts, and that includes legitimate opponents like Isaac Cruz and Romero, and he either fought them to a decision (Cruz) or send all the way to dream street early on (Romero).
-275 chalk is kind of light for Davis, but he is accustomed to strong competition. Davis has a 92.59% KO rate in his career as a boxer career. Garcia, on the other hand, has KO’ed 82.61% of his professional opponents.
What Davis lacks in reach, he makes up for with explosive power. In his bout against Mario Barrios, who just happens to have the same height and reach as Garcia, Tank demonstrated that he can be lethal, even from a distance.
The left-hander spent quite a bit of time backing up in the early rounds but then pulled a beautiful right hook out of nowhere which knocked down Barrios in the 8th round. Davis eventually found his rhythm.
He weaved and advanced on Barrios before he put him down with a body blow, then a decisive left hook. Employing the Barrios fight as a guide, the game plan ior Davis to defeat Garcia is right there.
Betting Ryan Garcia
Davis stands at five-foot-five with a 67.5-inch reach. Ryan Garcia is five-foot-10 with a 70-inch reach. There isn’t a hell of a whole lot of boxers out there who have better physical skills than Davis, but Garcia’s reach and size will no doubt be potentially game-changing factors.
Garcia is longer and taller, so Tank has to get close in order to tangle with the 24-year-old. At that point, should any of Davis’ bombs fail to do the trick, he will end up right where Kingry wants him, i.e. in the vicinity of his jackhammer left hand which could clip him in the nogging with disastrous results.
Garcia is notorious for the quickness of his hands and his agility in the ring. He may not have a pure power or opportunistic elusiveness that Davis has, but Kingry might figure out a recipe for the win should he manage to outlast Tank into the later rounds.
That is where conditioning really comes into play. Davis hit a wall in his bout against Cuban veteran Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019. That was Davis’ debut in the lightweight division, and it included an additional weight cut as a potential reason for how his pace clearly went down by the eighth round.
Tank appeared to be a little surprised that Gamboa could take so much punishment, but when his foe stayed too long in the pocket, the Baltimore native took him down with a left cross. Gamboa, who was in his late 30s at the time, wasn’t quick enough to connect with the exhausted Davis when the opportunity presented itself.
Garcia, younger and faster, might have a chance to deliver some damage if he can hang around beyond the eighth, ninth, and 10th rounds.
Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia Pick
Both fighters have a few flaws, making this an intriguing matchup. Davis has more power and experience. Garcia is younger, faster, and better conditioned. If Garcia has improved some of his weaknesses, then there is a good chance this fight will go to the judges.
Look for Tank to pick up the win by Decision.
