The 2017 online NFL betting season continues with a flurry of matchups that could play a hand in determining this season’s playoff landscape. One such matchup is this Sunday’s contest between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings, one of Week 4’s top sportsbook betting opportunities. Detroit qualified for the postseason last year via a Wild Card draw and is one of this year’s favorites to make the playoff cut once more. The same goes for Minnesota who will be doing everything they can to knock off their divisional rival this weekend.

Surprisingly enough, despite the fact that they’re the ones coming off the playoff season, US online sportsbooks are actually pegging the Detroit Lions as the underdogs this weekend. The Lions may be coming off their first loss of the season, a last-minute 30-26 collapse against the Atlanta Falcons. But considering that Detroit gave the reigning NFC Champions a run for their money, there is absolutely no reason why NFL sportsbooks should be pegging them as +110 underdogs on the money line. In fact, that’s probably the best straight up bet fans can make this weekend.

Sure, the Vikings are a great team; they have a capable leader in Sam Bradford and a defense whose reputation precedes itself – at least against the run. Heading into this Sunday’s matchup, Minnesota is ranking 3rd in the NFL against the run. However, the Vikings could be a little better against the pass since they’re ranking 27th. Offensively Minnesota is putting up some impressive stats. The Vikes currently rank 2nd in total offense, 2nd in passing offense, and 11th in rushing. It’s undeniable that those are noteworthy figures but do they merit -130 odds on the money line?

With the odds on the money line being so close to even, top sportsbook betting players won’t find that much value betting on the spread on this one. Nevertheless, it’s still slightly better than a -130 payout and will offer the same old wiggle room. US online sportsbooks have the Minnesota Vikings currently pegged at -2 on the spread. Minnesota has posted a 2-1 record against the spread this season while the Lions are 2-1 as well ATS. GTBets, a trusted leader in the industry that is great for NFL betting newcomers, is offering a -110 payout on the spread for both the Lions and Vikings.

Judging by the odds we’ve covered so far, the online NFL betting odds are really backing Minnesota this weekend. It probably has something to do with the fact that the Vikings will be enjoying home field advantage come Sunday. US online sportsbook players looking to bet on the totals line will have to go over/under on 42 ½ points. Minnesota has posted a 2-1 record against the over/under line thus far this season. Similarly, the Lions are 2-1 versus the totals as well. The payout is once again listed at -110 for this line.
