This year’s World Cup is headed towards the quarterfinal round and the best sportsbook players couldn’t be more thrilled. This year’s tournament has been filled with surprises and we’re anticipating a similar event this weekend. The quarterfinal action will commence on Friday and will continue through Saturday. Nevertheless, the best matchup has to be Friday’s Brazil vs. Belgium pairing. What kind of World Cup predictions should legal sportsbook players make?
Brazil opened up as one of this year’s biggest World Cup favorites and rightfully so. Brazil almost always brings the best talent to the table. And despite having a poor outing at the 2014 World Cup, the Brazilians have already punched their ticket to the quarterfinal rounds. Granted Brazil was helped out tremendously by a rather weak group that basically opened the door for them to exit. Notwithstanding the weakness of the group, their first group stage matchup versus Switzerland resulted in a 1-1 draw. Afterwards, Brazil picked up their first tournament win by defeating Costa Rica 2-0. The Brazilians would go on to cement their exit out of the group stage by pummeling Serbia 2-0 in their final group stage matchup. In the Round of 16, Brazil was put to the challenge by being paired against Mexico. But in the end, Brazil dominated the competition 2-nil. The South American team looks to do the same to Belgium this weekend, hopefully with fewer antics from Neymar.
Like Brazil, Belgium was also pegged as one of this year’s favorites to win the tournament. And like Brazil, Belgium has yet to taste defeat at this year’s tournament. Moreover, they have yet to finish a game in a draw as well. Their first group stage matchup resulted in a 3-0 mauling of Panama. Afterwards, Belgium faced Tunisia in a 5-2 winning effort. Despite that brilliant start, Belgium struggled to defeat England in the final group stage matchup. Ultimately they did manage to scrape past the English 1-0. And in the Round of 16, Belgium faced Japan and won 3-2. Despite delivering a strong performance at each step of the tournament, the weekend’s World Cup betting odds are still siding against Belgium. But make no mistake about it, this team has enough talent to topple the likes of Brazil.
