There was turmoil way down the bracket at the safe gambling sites following Utah’s loss to Oregon State on Thursday night. The Utes had their worst defeat of the season and their second Quad 3 loss.
Moreover, Arizona State swept them and they lost their single game versus USC. Utah also suffered a neutral-site loss to St. John’s, with whom they are competing for a berth in the tournament.
As we head into the last weekend of the regular season, it appears as though the conference tourneys will have little to do with how the bubble will sort itself out.
Projected Top Seeds
No. 1 Purdue (Midwest) UConn (East) Houston (South) Tennessee (West)
No. 2 Baylor (Midwest) North Carolina (East) Marquette (South) Arizona (West)
Friday is going to be quiet but that will be just a prelude to the chaos. Boise State takes a trip to San Diego State in action from Mountain West. The Broncos are one of the four squads standing a game behind Utah State in the conference rankings. Meanwhile, the Aztecs are two games behind in 6th place.
Dayton will be hosting VCU in a major game for the Flyers. They will be trying not to drop farther down the bracket. The MAC regular campaign will also conclude on Friday. Akron and Toledo share the lead and they have split their regular season matchups.
Tennessee has won seven consecutive games as well as nine of their past ten. They are one of the top teams in men’s college hoops at the moment. Dalton Knecht and the Vols are coming off a remarkable 66-59 win against No. 17 South Carolina. They have been playing at the top of their game as they head into the March Madness betting.
Tennessee is still a top seed together with UConn, Houston and Purdue. Meanwhile, Arizona, North Carolina, Marquette and Iowa State are the #2 seeds. Creighton defeated No. 5 Marquette last weekend. They remain a #3 seed. Joining them are Baylor,
Duke and Kansas. Meanwhile, Kentucky, Illinois, Alabama, and Auburn are ranked as the No. 4 seeds in the best online sportsbooks’ most recent projections.
Apart from the top four seeds, other teams of note that appear in the projections are San Diego State (No. 5 seed), Wisconsin (No. 6 seed), Michigan State (No. 9 seed), Texas (No. 9 seed) and a couple of Big East teams: Seton Hall (No. 10 seed) and Villanova (No. 11 seed).
Teams that are right on the bubble include Virginia, Colorado, and Providence. Texas A&M, Iowa, Pitt, and Wake Forest are projected to be the first four out. Meanwhile, Utah, South Florida, Memphis, and Kansas State will be the following four.
The Big 12 is the best-represented conference with nine teams. The SEC and Big East have seven teams representing them respectively. Meanwhile the Big Ten and Mountain West will have six teams in the tournament according to the latest projections. The ACC has four squads, while the Pac-12 has three teams and the West Coast Conference has two teams.
