While the NFL draft goes later this month in Detroit, teams aren’t waiting around to reshape their roster. Notably, it’s the Buffalo Bills who have been busy.
Buffalo was facing some tough decisions as it pertained to the salary cap, and stunned the football world by trading star wide receiver Stefon Diggs last week. Diggs is now a Houston Texan, which will have a huge impact on the league in general and the AFC in particular.
Buffalo has signed Diggs to a contract extension in 2022, so the Bills are going to be hit with some “dead money” as a result of the trade.
The offshoot is the Bills figure to be somewhat worse offensively, while the Texans have become a more lethal outfit. Buffalo may try to draft a wideout, but it has other holes to fill.
Here’s a look at some of the AFC’s future odds after the Bills swapped Diggs away.

Winning the East
Buffalo remains the choice in the AFC East, priced at +165, according to NFL division odds. It’s no surprise the Miami Dolphins (+175) are the second choice, with the New York Jets (11-5, [+220]} and rank outsider New England Patriots (20-1, [+2000]) rounding out the quartet.
Buffalo has annexed this division four years in a row.
Winning the South
Coming off their seventh division title last season, the Houston Texans are the 11-10 (+110) favorite to win the AFC South once again. With the Stefon above Diggs now on the receiving end of dynamic quarterback C.J. Stroud, there is much buzz around a team that went 10-7 last season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are next at 13-5 (+260), with the Indianapolis Colts at 13-4 (+325). The Tennessee Titans are the 8-1 (+800) outsiders on the board.
Winning the Conference
It’s no secret the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs have ruled the AFC pretty much since quarterback Patrick Mahomes arrived in Missouri. They weren’t on either end of the Stefon Diggs trade (apparently the Bills wanted no part of sending him to Kansas City), but KC is the 13-4 (+325) choice to again win the conference.
Buffalo has swelled to 7-1 (+700) to win the AFC, the same as the Cincinnati Bengals. Conference finalist Baltimore Ravens are the 9-2 (+450) second choice.
If you think Buffalo and quarterback Josh Allen remain in the mix, it’s a price that’s tempting.
Winning it All
As Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs eye a three-peat, they’re the 6-1 (+660) current co-favorites with the defending NFC-champions San Francisco 49ers, as per Super Bowl LIX odds.
Buffalo’s lost support, with the Bills now at 14-1 (+1400), the co-fourth choice in that market. They were hovering around 10-1 (+1000) at the outset of wagering.
Expect some changes in these boards once the draft is over.
