UFC 276 Betting Preview

Adesanya is favored at the best offshore gambling sites. He is coming off a unanimous decision win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 271. That was his fourth middleweight title defense. He unified the championship with a knockout win over Whittaker in 2019.

Adesanya is 22-1 in his MMA career. That includes an 11-1 record in the UFC. His single loss only came when he changed divisions to unsuccessfully battle Jan Blachowicz for the 205-pound title last year.

Adesanya is a former pro kickboxer with 75 wins. The Last Stylebender is possibly the best technical striker in the company. He employs his length, quickness, kicking ability, and deceptive power to great effect.

Cannonier is the best offshore gambling sites’ underdog. He is coming off consecutive wins. He most recently knocked out Derek Brunson in the second round at UFC 271. Cannonier started his UFC betting career as a 241-pound heavyweight in 2016.

He quickly dropped to light heavyweight, going 2-3 with losses to title contenders Glover Teixeira, Dominick Reyes, and Blachowicz. The “Killa Gorrilla” has upped his game since he moved to middleweight, going 5-1 with four wins by KO/TKO. The 38-year-old has explosive strikes with TNT in his hands. He likes to set the stage for his powerful combos by attacking the lead leg of his opponent.

Pick: Adesanya

Adesanya has been very vocal about his desire to fight Cannonier for years. That speaks volumes to the fact that this is going to be a stand-up fight that will play into each other’s strengths. Cannonier is a great striker in his own right, but he’ll have a very hard time landing his more powerful hits against Adesanya.

The latter can bob and weave like no one’s business. Even though he is under six feet tall, Cannonier has a remarkable 77-inch reach. That’s still three inches shorter than Adesanya, though. Adesanya’s length, speed, and technical precision will more than Cannonier can handle.

Smart bet: Adesanya by decision

As dangerous as Adesanya’s punches are, only three of his past 11 fights have ended within the distance. He ko’d Brunson, Whittaker (the first time they battled), and Paulo Costa. All three of those matchups followed pretty much the same script: reckless foes.

Brunson attempted to pressure Adesanya with his chin up and hands low. Costa went off like a headless chicken. Even the reliably tactical Whittaker chased Adesanya around the octagon while throwing punches willy nilly.

Cannonier likes to exchange fists, but he’s a patient striker who would rather set up his bigger hits with low kicks. He doesn’t overcommit. He will not fall for the traps and counters that Adesanya sets up.

This will make it very hard for the champeen to finish him. Six of Adesanya’s past eight fights have gone to decision. That includes five outings that went to 25 minutes. All of this backs the Last Stylebender to win by points.

Pick: Adesanya by decision.
