Seven days after they romped over the Oklahoma Sooners 49-0 in the rivalry known as the Red River Showdown, Texas turned foreseeably flat last week even as they were a 16-point fave at top sportsbooks over Iowa State.
The Longhorns were in need of a late touchdown pass thrown by Quinn Ewers to go ahead and take their first lead of the game. They didn’t seal the deal until they recovered a fumble with 2 minutes left on the clock.
Ewers went on to finish the contest with three touchdown passes that he threw. He was also held to just 172 passing yards through the air. Texas’ offensive attack was led by the player in the running back position called Bijan Robinson.
He would crack the 100-rushing yard mark on the ground for the 5th consecutive week. The Longhorns can be said to have won three straight games. They have gone 6-2 ATS against the spread in their past 8 games. The majority of those games have been taking place at their home field or on a neutral site. However, Sanders was not effective passing through the air. He misfired on 20 of his 36 passes for 1 TD and one pick. Some of Sanders’ issues we could attributed to an injury he has been dealing with in his throwing shoulder which he sustained the prior week.
The veteran signal-caller was adamant about not using that as an excuse after the loss. Nonetheless, it will be of interest to see whether or not Sanders is going to look better with one more week to recover from the injury that we just mentioned in the preceding paragraph as the Pokes do seek their 11th consecutive victory playing at their home field.
