Betting Green Bay Packers
The Packers are the road underdogs per the best online sportsbooks. Green Bay’s biggest addition seems to be inside linebacker Christian Kirksey. He signed to a two-year, $16 million contract on March 17 after he was released from Cleveland. Kirksey had two very productive seasons with Cleveland but played only nine games in the past two seasons because of injury. If the fast, versatile Kirksey remains healthy, he could stand out in DC Mike Pettine’s defense.
“Kirko has been great,” said Pettine. “Stepped in here in a leadership role right away; guys gravitated to him. He’s a good communicator on the field, a good communicator off the field in the meeting room. He’s a take-charge kind of guy.” The Packers signed veteran right tackle Rick Wagner, and he’s competing for that spot. And running back A.J. Dillon and inside linebacker Kamal Martin could be immediate collaborators from the rookie class.
Right tackle Bryan Bulaga, a 10-year starter at that position, signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency. The Packers lack someone who can play the position at his level, and that could be a problem for quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay’s offense. Linebacker Blake Martinez, has the second-most tackles in the last four years, also signed with the New York Giants in free agency.
Few teams can boast of Green Bay’s trio of running backs. Aaron Jones tied for the lead in rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns in the 2019 season. He is coming off his first 1,000-yard rushing season. He has a career average of 5.0 yards per carrying. Was second on the team in receptions last year. Jamaal Williams is the only player in Packers history to record 400-plus rushing yards and 200-plus receiving yards in each of his first three seasons. And rookie A.J. Dillon is a 6-foot-1, 247-pound monster who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds.
Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith Return
The Packers return one of the best outside linebacking tandems in Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith. The two Smiths became only the second pair of Packers to register double-digit sacks in the same season lin 2019. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t the same as when he won MVPs in 2011 and 2014. He remains a top-10 quarterback. And he could have a lot to prove after the Packers selected quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the draft.
Betting Minnesota Vikings
The Vikes are the home favorites according to the best gambling sites. Minnesota Vikings are 12-3 when Dalvin Cook has at least 100 scrimmage yards in a game, 6-9-1 when he has fewer. Dalvin will play his first full season and can be expected to have at least 350 touches and an increased role in the passing attack. Danielle Hunter became the youngest player in history to register 50 career sacks. He has had consecutive seasons of 14.5 sacks and is nowhere near his prime yet.
The top-notch pass-rusher was a Defensive Player of the Year candidate in 2019. Harrison Smith remains one of the most complete safeties. He covers, blitzes, calls the defense and is a big role in the Vikings’ run defense success. Smith has yielded a 54.3% completion rate as the nearest defender. He was second in the ball-hawk rate at 22.5%.
