Thursday’s round of NCAA betting action brought another dramatic upset with it. But unlike in previous tournaments, where a half court shot is what lets one team advance past the other, this year’s NCAA tournament has been unusually devoid of buzzer beating shots. The action has been just as intense, but there’s no denying that this year’s online sportsbook action has had some unusual results, especially for those wagering on the spread line.

Saturday’s action will offer another lucrative opportunity for US sportsbook players to rake in some winnings. The contest with the most auspicious odds has to be the matchup between Gonzaga and Xavier. Gonzaga is one of the few favorites remaining in this year’s tournament, and arguably the best team still left standing. However, Xavier has beaten the odds every round so far, can they get it done against the Bulldogs?

Gonzaga vs. Xavier – Saturday, March 25

Online Sportsbook Odds:

Gonzaga Bulldogs -8 (-110) -145.5 (-110) -410
Xavier Musketeers +8 (-110) +145.5 (-110) +325

Gonzaga Bulldogs

The Bulldogs come into this matchup sporting a 35-1 record (17-1 WCC) that paved the way to a first place finish in the conference. In the WCC Tournament, Gonzaga didn’t break a sweat as they advanced to the championship match, where they usurped St. Mary’s 74-56.

The Bulldogs faced South Dakota in the opening round of the tournament and handed them a 66-46 pounding. In the second round, Gonzaga squared off against Northwestern, and this time the Zags opposition posed a bigger problem. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs overcame the Wildcats 79-73. In Thursday’s round of Sweet Sixteen betting action, Gonzaga was the only team able to cover the spread, as they advanced past West Virginia 61-58.

The Bulldogs enter yet another game as the online sportsbook favorite. Gonzaga will turn to leading point scorer Nigel Williams-Goss to help keep it that way. Williams-Goss is leading the program in points with his average of 16.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per outing. Second in points for the Zags is Przemek Karnowski who is putting up 12.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per matchup.

Xavier Musketeers

The Musketeers come into Saturday evening’s matchup flashing a 24-13 record (9-9 Big East) that led to a 7th place finish in Big East standings. In the Big East Tournament, the Musketeers made it all the way to the Semifinals where Creighton eliminated Xavier 72-75.

The Musketeers have put on quite a show so far this season and have beaten the online sportsbook odds each and every round. In the opening round Xavier stunned Maryland 76-65, and followed that up with another upset over devastating upset over Florida State 91-66. Nevertheless, the sportsbooks ruled the Musketeers out in their matchup against Arizona, but solid play on behalf of Trevon Blueitt assured the Musketeers would advance past Arizona 73-71.

To help keep the Cinderella story going, Xavier will once again be hoping that Blueitt does the opposite of his last name and comes through for the program. Blueitt is averaging 18.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Second in points for the Musketeers is Edmond Sumner who is draining 15.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per contest.
