Some of the best evidence that the New Orleans Saints are a genuine betting Super Bowl contender is that they have continued to do well even after losing one of the great quarterbacks in the game. So now let’s see if Teddy Bridgewater can win his sixth straight in a starting role. The Saints will square off against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The action starts at 1 PM ET at the Superdome in the Big Easy.

It’s televised by CBS on a regional basis. And while BetAnySports customers watch it, they can place real-time wagers with Live Betting Ultra.

The NFL’s best story?

Bridgewater is emerging as perhaps the best story in the NFL this season. When one thinks about what the outlook was when he tore out his knee, it was seemingly unthinkable that he would come back at all, much less come back at a high level. We’re not going to sit here and tell you he hasn’t missed a beat. He doesn’t really have the mobility he once possessed. And he’s not going to be mistaken for Peyton Manning. But he has been steady at the controls as he’s filled in for Drew Brees, sitting out with a thumb injury.

Bridgewater, who once made it to the Pro Bowl as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, has completed 67.7% of his passes and been intercepted only twice in 195 attempts. Most importantly, from the perspective of head coach Sean Payton, is that the Saints have won all five of his starts. And we are not even halfway through the schedule yet, but wide receiver Michael Thomas has already caught 62 passes for 763 yards.

Let’s look at the numbers………..

In the pro football betting odds that have been posted on this game, the Saints are laying a sizable number:

Don’t look now, but Cards on a three-game win streak

Perhaps Kliff Kingsbury isn’t quite ready to fashion his Coach of the Year campaign just yet. But he’s taken an Arizona team that had a dismal 2018 season and has them at .500. Yes, it is true that they haven’t beaten awesome opponents (Bengals, Falcons, Giants). But the Cardinals are at least distinguishing themselves from the absolute bottom rung.

They are running the ball with some gusto (4.8 ypc), as Chase Edmonds has picked up the ball and run with it as David Johnson has been banged up. Edmonds played at Fordham, which was a national power back when Vince Lombardi was one of the famed “Seven Blocks of Granite.” And he has chewed up yards (5.6 ypc) while scoring five touchdowns. So he’s emerged as a valuable weapon for Kingsbury’s “Air Raid.”

Kyler Murray is developing. He has thrown for 1768 yards and run for 266 more. He’s also been sacked 23 times, and that’s going to be a concern here. They are going to have to deal with his rookie mistakes. But at least he’s keeping the ball out of enemy hands, as he’s thrown just four INT’s.

The Saints stop people

New Orleans’ defense has been simply outstanding. And that is how they managed to beat Chicago rather handily last week, despite not having tight end Jared Cook or running back Alvin Kamara available.

The Saints limited the Bears to just 17 rushing yards, and Latavius Murray kept things humming with 119 yards on the ground. New Orleans has forced its opponents into a three-and-out 25% of the time, but their Achilles heel might be their performance in the red zone, where their defense doesn’t crack the top 25.

Fortunately the Cards have been stopped often when they get inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. In fact, only one team (Jacksonville) has been less proficient when it comes to scoring TD’s there.

In conclusion……

Much of this verdict depends on whather the Saints are missing key offensive contributors like Kamara. But even though the Cards don’t give it away (no fumbles lost), they are allowing sizable yardage on the ground (4.7 ypc surrendered) and have given up 17 TD passes with just one interception. Will Patrick Peterson make a big difference? We’ll go UNDER the total here.
