The Denver Broncos are favored at home on Sunday as they host the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts played poorly on defense in their opener and lost to Detroit while the Broncos took out the Carolina Panthers in a Super Bowl rematch. This will be the fifth time in the last four seasons that the Colts and Broncos will be playing and the Colts have won three of the last four. Denver is listed as a 6-point home favorite in this contest at the best sportsbooks.

Week 2 NFL Odds at Top Sportsbooks

Denver Broncos -6, total 46

The Colts lost their opener for the third straight season as they were outscored by Detroit 39-35. The defense gave up 448 total yards and the offense struggled to run the ball. The good news is that Andrew Luck threw for 385 yards and four TDs without an interception. The defense could have more problems this week against a Denver offense that looked better than expected in the win over Carolina.

The Broncos offensive line in front of quarterback Trevor Siemian played really well in the opener against the Panthers and head coach Gary Kubiak was pleased saying, “Well, I’m encouraged [by the offensive line],’’ Kubiak said. “That’s the biggest thing. … I’m encouraged by what we can be. I was very encouraged by our tackle play. I thought Michael Schofield getting his first start at guard, which he earned, played well. Matt Paradis ran the group. We faced a lot of different fronts, a lot of different groups, and Matt really handled the group well.’’

The Broncos will be looking to run the ball a lot against a poor Indianapolis defense. Denver had 157 rushing yards against a good Carolina defense so they should have a huge day against the Colts.

Game Notes

The Colts have simply owned the Broncos of late winning eight of the last nine meetings. “It’s just something about Indy,” Broncos running back C.J. Anderson said. “Whenever they come here or whenever we go there, they just find ways to win football games against us. They got our number, to be honest.” The Broncos have said that there is no rhyme or reason for losing to the Colts. “It’s just something about what they do,” Anderson said. “They really don’t change anything up. It’s just something about them wanting it more than us. That’s what it comes down to this weekend. We just have to want it more.”

The trends support the Colts but the stats support the Broncos. I will avoid a side and just take this game over the total.
