Week 2 of the NFL betting preseason has games scheduled Thursday through Monday nights. Now that we have reached the second week of the three-game preseason slate, expect to see some veterans get a bit more time on the field.

There weren’t any major storylines during the opening week of the preseason. Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears were big winners on offense, but there figures to be more news after this week’s slate of games.

Here is a look at a few of the “bigger” games of the second week. plus some predictions

NFL Browns vs. Eagles

Since the NFL always tries to dominate the headlines during as many days as possible, there’s a Thursday game in Philadelphia. It’s the Eagles as 3½-point favorites over the Cleveland Browns in what may well be a tight game

A Two-fer Friday

Friday night finds the New York Giants as small home favorites against the Carolina Panthers, while the Cincinnati Bengals are about a touchdown road underdogs against the Falcons in Atlanta. There will be young quarterbacks on display, always a big story.

If you are going to bet these Thursday-Friday games, try the favorites. We don;t see the underdogs having much in the way of incentive, and they’re going to struggle here.

NFL Stuffed Saturday Slate

The Saturday docket has 11 games between afternoon and evening, so there ought to be a at least a few games of substance. “Substance” is defined here as games where frontline players actually get into the game(s).

The Chicago Bears visit the Indianapolis Colts Saturday evening. There will be plenty of eyes on both teams. Chicago was a 23-17 winner over the Detroit Lions last week, clicking on offense. Indy, with rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson having been named the starter, might be a team on the improve.

The Buffalo Bills visit the Pittsburgh Steelers early Saturday evening, with both playing well in openers last week. Obviously, Pittsburgh has more to prove as the season approaches.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs visit the Arizona Cardinals Saturday evening, with the offense perhaps unleashing some weapons. Arizona’s without clear direction as of now, though it edged the visiting Detroit Lions last Friday. The Cards have a league-low expected win total of 4½, according to NFL regular-season win odds.

Every coach has a strategy when it comes to the preseason games, something to consider if you’re wagering on these contests.

Some of our suggestions include…

  • Chicago Bears +3½ (at Indianapolis Colts)
  • Houston Texans -3 (vs. Miami Dolphins)
  • Pittsburgh Steelers -2½ (vs. Buffalo Bills)
  • Kansas City Chiefs -310 (moneyline at Arizona Cardinals)

The Closing Argument

There will once again be a Sunday night and a Monday night game to conclude things.

The New Orleans Saints are field-goal favorites at old Hollywood Park over the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday night, as per NFL preseason odds.

New Orleans has more to prove this Week 2 tilt. Take the Saints minus-3, since the Bolts won’t be playing as many of their stars. Expect both to be loaded offensively this season.

Now, to the Baltimore Ravens and their freaky preseason streak, as in 24 wins in a row dating back to 2015. It’s on the line at the Washington Commanders Monday night. Having the best record in the preseason doesn’t matter, but the team just refuses to lose games.

Try the Ravens -3 here, as the run extends to 25.
