Tampa Bay can get it done on both sides of the ball.

How far can the Tampa Bay Buccaneers go? It’s hard to think of a team in recent years that has stacked itself on offense quite like these guys have. Not only did they sign Tom Brady, but they also brought over his favorite receiver from New England. Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement for an attempt at another Super Bowl ring.

They are going to get started in the playoffs against the Washington Football Team. It begins at 8:15 PM ET at FedEx Field in Landover, MD, as the Bucs go on the road.

Now let’s endeavor to tell you why the Bucs can cover this big number on the road:

Brady really had a great season

Even at his age, Tom Brady was extremely productive. And despite his getting called out from time to time by head coach Bruce Arians, it was a heck of a season. Brady threw for 4633 yards to be third in the NFL in passing yardage. He threw the ball an unbelievable 610 times. And his 40-touchdown, 12-interception ratio was strong. But in the last four games of the schedule, he had a dozen TD’s and was picked off only once.

The depth at receiver is extraordinary

The Bucs are a nightmarish proposition for secondaries. Just start with Mike Evans, the All-Pro who caught 70 passes for 1006 yards and thirteen of Brady’s 40 touchdowns. With a hyper-extended left knee, he hopes to make it for the opening whistle. Opposite him is Chris Godwin (65 catches), who like Evens was named to the Pro Bowl last season. And of course, there was the mid-season acquisition of Antonio Brown, who managed 45 receptions.

There are, of course, other people who are a genuine threat. One of them, naturally, is Gronk, who had 45 receptions for 623 yards and seven touchdowns after taking a year off. Don’t forget about Scott Miller (33 catches, 501 yards). And remember that Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette combined for 64 receptions out of the backfield. The point is, Brady can really spread the ball around, making it hard for opponents to lean in any direction with their coverage.

The Bucs play a lot of defense too

While Washington is working with the 30th-ranked offense in the NFL, the Bucs are seventh. But they are also the sixth-ranked defense. And they are very high in a number of categories. That includes great numbers from the defensive line.

Tampa Bay is seventh in the league in Sack Percentage. And that is a big factor against Alex Smith, whose mobility has to come into question because of his calf injury.

The Bucs also allow just 3.6 yards per carry. And in terms of some of the more advanced metrics, they are #1 in Adjusted Line Yards, second-best in Second-Level Yards and #2 in Stuff Rate, which means that they are good at stopping a lot of running plays before they reach the line of scrimmage.

All in all, this has been a pretty good comeback season for coordinator Todd Bowles, who is back in the conversation about head coaching jobs.

So have we convinced you that the Buccaneers can not only win, but carry a big number on the road?
