Monday Night NFL Week 14: Giants-Eagles Betting Preview & Odds
Things have been very rough for the New York Giants this season. And at a point where they have lost eight games in a row, a change has been made. Eli Manning, who has won two Super Bowl MVP awards, is back in the starting lineup. This change was necessitated by the high ankle sprain suffered by Daniel Jones.
They have the Monday night stage against the Philadelphia Eagles. And thus, they will be encountering a hated rival and a hostile atmosphere.
Game time is 8:15 PM ET at Lincoln Financial Field. And while BetAnySports customers are watching it on ESPN, they can wager in real time through Sports Betting Ultra.
Eli Manning returns
With Jones’ injury, Manning has to come off the bench to lead the offense again. Of course, that was not the intention. Manning was yanked after the Giants got off to an 0-2 start. And the plan was for Jones to begin his tenure as the “quarterback of the future.” The Duke alumnus won his first two starts, but it’s been nothing but defeat since.
Jones turned the ball over 21 times, including ten fumbles. So perhaps getting a steadier hand behind center will be useful.
One has to imagine that Eli is still carrying around a bittersweet feeling about the benching. But there is also some enthusiasm on his part. And his teammates are very excited to see him back. In fact, in a sense it adds a certain spark or incentive in what is otherwise a lost season.
Here are the numbers…
Taking a look at the Monday Night Football betting odds, Philadelphia is a big favorite at home:

Coach & GM on the hot seat?
Fans are frustrated with the way the Giants have played, naturally. And there is significant speculation in the New York media as to whether Pat Shurmur is going to last until next season. The head coach has been lambasted for his decision-making. And of course, one of those decisions involved going with Jones after only two games.
Manning said that he did expect the natural changing of the guard to take place, but not with such near-immediacy. “I don’t know if I expected it to happen as early as it did,” said Eli.
But if Shurmur is fired, it won’t be because of that. After all, the era of Jones was the will of GM Dave Gettleman, who drafted him for that purpose. The Giants have just been lousy in almost every aspect of the game. And in an area like New York, which just saw the coach of the Knicks get fired, there isn’t an abundance of patience.
There is also a fair amount of speculation as to whether Gettleman will still have a job with the organization. Things have gone backward under his stewardship, and at some point it is somebody’s responsibility. If Gettleman does get to stay, and Shurmur is let go, the rumor is that Ron Rivera, recently fired as head coach of the Carolina Panthers, would be very prominent on the radar screen, because Gettleman was also the GM in Carolina and worked with him.
All of this is going to be discussed after the season. Owners Steve Tisch and John Mara will get together and decide the future.
Wouldn’t it be ironic if Manning were to play well enough in these games to save the jobs of Shurmur and Gettleman, the guys who unseated him as the starter?
There is no disguising the fact that the Eagles are desperate. As the Dallas Cowboys continue losing, they still have a chance to win the NFC East. But they are VERY compromised in the secondary. And there was no excuse to lose to the Miami Dolphins last week.
The Giants’ secondary hasn’t been too good either. But we see some inspiration coming from Manning. Maybe it’s his last hurrah. Maybe it’s an audition for another team.
But we know that he will have the full compliment of receivers available. We’re talking about Evan Engram, Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard, not to mention Darius Slayton. And we think he knows how to wisely use Saquon Barkley out of the backfield. These guys WANT to play for him. Yeah, we’ll take the points.
