The New Orleans Saints are coming off a truly thrilling game, and they have clinched the NFC South. So how much did that game against San Francisco take out of them? And how much will they be able to put forth as they play host to the Indianapolis Colts in the Monday night football matchup that is taking place at 8:15 PM at the Superdome?

Customers at BetAnySports can watch this game on ESPN. And they can place wagers in real-time, as they access Sports Betting Ultra.

In what may have been a preview of the NFC championship game, New Orleans got off to a 20-7 lead against the Niners but saw that disappear by halftime. The final score was 48-46 after a heartbreaking last-second field goal by Robbie Gould. In a losing cause, Drew Brees threw for 349 yards and four touchdowns.

Indianapolis had its own heartbreaking defeat, losing 38-35 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They gave up 542 yards, which kind of nullified three interceptions they got from James Winston. That included a pick-six from Darius Leonard.

Can Indianapolis trade points?

When Andrew Luck announced his retirement right before the season opener, Colts fans were crushed. But Jacoby Brissett has proven to be more than serviceable in the quarterback role. He’s done a really good job holding down turnovers, with only six interceptions. And the Indianapolis interior line has protected him well (only 20 sacks).

Frank Reich, a long-time offensive coordinator, has been very resourceful in his short tenure as a head coach. He has dealt with injuries all season long, but nonetheless Indianapolis had pounded out victories against Houston, Kansas City, and Tennessee.

However, sooner or later those injuries have a way of taking a toll. And the Colts of now lost five of their last six games.

The Saints had her own injury problems at quarterback. But Teddy Bridgewater did a great job filling in for Brees, who, with 73.6% completions, is threatening his own one-season accuracy record. It’s very hard to get to Drew, as he’s been sacked only nine times. And he has a wide receiver with silly numbers.

Mike Thomas has caught 121 passes already (for 1424 yards). And he is proving to be well worth the huge contract extension he got before the season started. They won’t stop him easily.

Here are the numbers…

In conclusion…….

It does kind of appear as if the Colts aren’t going to be able to keep up offensively with New Orleans. But these guys have surprised us on occasion this year. Even though he gained only 38 yards last week, as long as they have Marlon Mack healthy and in the lineup, they’ve got a chance to establish something on the ground.

One of the big questions for them might be how to deal with the possible absence of TY Hilton. The wideout has been hampered for more than a month by a calf injury. This week he practiced, but he will not play in the game unless he’s 100%. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be very much of a possibility.

It’s interesting that Brees is not operating with a lot of balance in his receiving corps. After Thomas, the wide receiver with the most receptions is Ted Ginn, with only 28. So you have to wonder how much Indianapolis gets hurt by giving Thomas a lot of extra attention.

But the way Sean Payton’s scheme works, there’s a lot of activity with the running backs in the passing game. Alvin Kamara has 68 catches, for example. What they would really like is a healthy Jared Cook. The tight end, who made it to the Pro Bowl with Oakland last season, has averaged 15.4 yards per reception. But he is getting over a concussion, and it is not certain whether he’s going to be cleared for this game.

No, fundamentally things don’t look like they could work out for Indianapolis. But remember that the Saints have to be at least a little drained. And on the road, the Colts have scored victories over Tennessee and Kansas City.

Plus, they have taken playoff contenders like Pittsburgh in Houston right down to the wire, losing by a combined five points. So they have dealt with adversity and are mentally tough. As such, they could get within this number.
