The San Francisco 49ers keep winning and winning. And it has gotten to the point where they are only undefeated team left in the NFL. But how long can this last? Are they really good enough to go through the whole season without a loss?
The Seattle Seahawks are a team that has ridden the right arm of a quarterback who’s as confident as ever. And they have made some recent adjustments to the defense. When you look at the standings, there’s not much separating these teams that get together on Monday night.
Game time is 8:15 PM ET at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. And if you are a BetAnySports customer, you’ll have a chance to place wagers in real-time. Just watch the game on ESPN and access Sports Betting Ultra.
About the Niners
Kyle Shanahan and his dad Mike were always associated with the West Coast offense, but this team is firmly committed to the run. In fact, they have run the ball almost 56% of the time, and that is more frequently than any team in the NFL. This week they get three players back who are important to that running game. Joe Staley at left tackle and Mike McGlinchey on the right are expected to return from injuries. So is fullback Kyle Juszczyk, one of the best in the business. As Shanahan put it, “You don’t replace Kyle. He’s kind of one of a kind at fullback.”
It’s important to note that the Niners have continued to win and rack up yards even with those guys missing. Now add in the other components. George Kittle, the All-Pro tight end who has more than twice the number of catches (45) as any other receiver on the roster. Emmanuel Sanders, who came in a trade and has made an impression very quickly.
And then there is, of course, Jimmy Garoppolo. Last week he threw for 317 yards and four TD’s in the 28-25 win over Arizona. If our calculations are correct, he has won 14 of 15 games that he has started and finished for this team. On the season, he is 71% accurate, going for almost eight yards a throw.
Could he be on track to meeting up with former teammate Tom Brady in the Super Bowl? What an interesting story that would be – the heir apparent maybe taking the torch from the master.

About the Seahawks
Listen – don’t discount the Seahawks, who have a 7-3 record. If they win this game they are only a half-game behind in the NFC West. And the MVP talk about Russell Wilson is justified. Here’s a guy who has averaged 8.5 yards an attempt. And he throws the ball down the field. He has 22 touchdown passes with only one interception.
That said, Seattle would like to be run-first if possible. They are only slightly under 50% in terms of the run-pass ratio. And Chris Carson is more or less carrying the load, with 764 yards and a 4.4-yard average. But when Wilson has to go to the air, he has the reliable Tyler Lockett, who’s caught 59 passes, and rookie DK Metcalf, who is a bona fide big-play threat (18 yards per catch).
The Seahawks have made a couple of tweaks to the defense. Bringing safety Quantrelle Diggs from Detroit certainly upset Darius Slay, who considered him essential. And they are still waiting for Jadeveon Clowney to play his best ball. But these are signs of a team not standing pat in a division with the Rams and 49ers.
In conclusion…….
There is almost nothing that is unimpressive about what the Niners have been doing. They are second in the NFL in yards allowed per drive and best in the red zone, they have the ability to monopolize the football, holding it 34 minutes per game and they seem to have the qualities necessary for a Super Bowl run.
Yes, statistically you can’t make a big argument for Seattle. Except that they have Wilson, and that gives them a puncher’s chance to the finish. Don’t lose sight of the fact that the ‘Hawks have won all four road games. That denotes mental toughness. At this price, we like ’em.
