Did the New York Jets have any designs on making noise in the AFC East this season? If so, they were put to rest relatively early. In fact, the next time BetAnySports customers see the Jets win will be the first time.
And now the league’s only winless team will try to pull off the unlikely upset. As they play host to the New England Patriots on Monday night, one might ask if such a thing is possible.
Kickoff is at 8:15 PM ET at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands.
Here are the odds on this Monday Night Football game…
Team | SP/RL | TOTAL | ML | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Patriots | -10 (-105) | 42½ (-105) | -470 | |
Jets | +10 (-115) | 42½ (-115) | +364 | |

The Jets’ quarterback situation
With the Jets sitting at 0-8 (and 1-7 against the pointspread), there is speculation. Yes, there is sufficient discussion about whether this team is headed toward the #1 draft choice. At that point, the likely guy is Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence. Yes, he’s a quarterback. And that means Sam Darnold would have to be written off as a bad debt.
It’s not out of line to say Darnold has been given a fair chance. At least by the standards that have been established in the NFL. He does not seem to have elevated the level of this offense. At least Mark Sanchez, another USC quarterback, rode along as the Jets went to a couple of AFC title games.
Of course, that was under a different coach – Rex Ryan. These guys in place now are a different thing altogether.
Gase upon this travesty
It seems that Adam Gase has ridden the coattails of Peyton Manning to good things in the NFL. When someone like Manning gives you a ringing endorsement, it can open some doors. And Gase has gotten a lot out of it. He went from Denver to be offensive coordinator in Chicago. Then he was head coach in Miami before landing the same position with the Jets.
When he was with the Dolphins, Gase drew the ire of his team. And that eventually led to him “losing the locker room.” It was because he seemed to scapegoat everyone but his quarterback, Ryan Tannehill. And the angry Dolphins decided to stop playing and roll over. There was nowhere for Gase to go but out the door.
Now the “guru” can’t get anything going with the offense. The Jets are last in the league with an average of one point per drive. They are last in the red zone. It is a disaster. Gase had no idea how to use Le’Veon Bell, and so he was released. And it would seem a foregone conclusion that if Gase does last until the end of the season, it won’t go any further than that.
Flacco to the rescue?
That question is being asked facetiously. But Darnold, who has a shoulder injury, didn’t practice all week. He was listed as doubtful, which likely puts Joe Flacco into the lineup.
Flacco, as you may know, was a Super Bowl MVP. And he was brought in for just this reason. So far he has subbed for Darnold on three occasions and completed 52% of his passes. Don’t expect a lot of production from him. Although if you wanted to be optimistic about it, he could be more of a steady veteran presence.
New England Patriots vs. New York Jets Conclusion….
We’re not sure the Jets are going to score all that much, so perhaps the team total of 15.5 points is of interest. And the way the Pats’ offense is playing (or isn’t, as it were), going under the total of 41.5 isn’t a bad idea either.
