It’s been a tough process for the New York Giants to put some distance between themselves and Eli Manning. But they have moved on to another starting quarterback. They have gotten mixed results. But then, that is something to be expected with a rookie.

It is not likely that the Giants are going to mount a playoff run. And whether that puts coach Pat Shurmur’s job in jeopardy is anybody’s guess. For the time being, this 2-6 team has to focus on the Monday Night Football spotlight. The game takes place against the Dallas Cowboys, and it begins at 8:15 PM ET from MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands.

ESPN provides the television, and as they do that, BetAnySports patrons can keep up with the action and place wagers in real time as they access what is available through Live Betting Ultra.

The Cowboys – by the numbers……

Where Dallas has to excel is on the ground. Ezekiel Elliott is the engine through which this attack runs. He averages four and a half yards per attempt, but he is indeed a workhorse, willing to shoulder the bulk of the burden.

If he is effective, that in turn makes Dak Prescott effective. The Dallas quarterback, who is looking for a big contract, has completed 70.6% of his passes. And even in this era of high-percentage passing attacks, that is a whopping number. What’s even more impressive here is that he has averaged 8.9 yards per attempt, so he is getting a lot out of his throws.

Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup are not a bad 1-2 punch out on passing routes. Between them, they are averaging around 16 yards per reception. Jason Witten, who spent last season calling these games in the Monday Night Football booth, has contributed with 26 catches.

The Cowboys have been a tough team to throw against. They have yielded just six touchdown passes and 6.4 yards per attempt. But they’ve got just 17 sacks and three interceptions, so they are not making a lot of game-changing plays.

And here are some more numbers – the odds for Monday’s game

In the Monday Night Football betting odds posted on this matchup, the Cowboys are the favorites on the road:

The Giants – by the numbers

This may turn out to be a duel between two of the NFL’s premier running backs. Saquon Barkley is splendid. He has fought through injuries to average five yards a carry, and you have to think that as time progresses, he’ll be more a part of the passing attack.

Maybe he just needs more time to work with Daniel Jones. The first-round pick out of Duke has had his moments, with ten touchdown passes and 62.5% accuracy. He has looked very formidable at times. What he has to is find the people who have been low-risk targets for him. That includes Barkley and tight end Evan Engram (38 receptions). Darius Slayton has big play potential, but he is unpolished. Sterling Shepard has been injured.

On defense, the Giants have had breakdowns. They have allowed 70.5% completions and 8.5 yards per attempt, which would seem to play right into Prescott’s hands. This is one of those games where it would seem imperative for them to stop the run. But how likely is that?

In conclusion…….

We don’t know how the Giants are going to be able to slow down the Cowboys’ attack. But even though left tackle Nate Solder has been something of a disappointment after signing a big contract with New York, we feel the Giants will be able to put together some sustained drives of their own.

Jones had four touchdown passes last week against Detroit last week, and in front of this national TV audience, Barkley will shine. We think this leads to a scoring atmosphere, which points us in the direction of an “over.”
