After a full weekend of NFL wagering action, fans are ready for some more US sportsbook betting lines. Up next is Week 9’s Monday Night Football matchup, pitting the still Aaron Rodgers-less Green Bay Packers against their divisional rivals, the Detroit Lions. The Packers haven’t been able to crack the W column since the loss of their two-time MVP and even though Brett Hundley has been doing his best, the Pack knows they’ll need a strong performance through all phases of the game if they are to upset their rivals. Let’s take a look at just how big of odds Green Bay will be facing this Monday night.
Betting Green Bay
The Packers slide into this Week 9 matchup sporting a 4-3 record that ranks the franchise 2nd in the NFC North behind the 6-2 Minnesota Vikings. Green Bay, who was but one win away from competing for a Super Bowl last season, knew that they were title contenders ahead of this year’s schedule. Once the 2017 season kicked off, the Pack, led by Rodgers’ elite passing game, made their way to the top of the NFC contender list. But with their starting quarterback suffering a broken collar bone, every single sports gambling site felt like Green Bay’s season was all but over. The franchise had no other option but to put their playoff hopes in the hands of Brett Hundley, Rodgers’ backup quarterback out of UCLA. So far, we’ve seen Rodgers’ replacement throw for 244 yards, 1 touchdown, 4 interceptions and a meager 40.5 passer rating. Up until this point, it was Green Bay’s offense, heralded by Rodgers himself, that ensure this team would win. Take Rodgers out of that equation, and fans have no guarantee that the Pack can close out a game. Don’t get it wrong, they’ll be competitive. But in the final minutes of the game, or even the 4th quarter, the team will make some mistakes that will cost them the game. Unquestionably.
Betting Detroit
The Lions crawl into this Monday night pairing flashing a 3-4 record that ranks Detroit 3rd in the NFC North behind both the Packers and the Vikings. The Lions are coming off a season that saw the team earn a Wild Card berth, and most Lions’ fans felt that the team had a pretty good shot of competing for the postseason once more. And when Detroit kicked off the 2017 season by posting a 3-1 record, most fans felt that their premonitions were right. However, since that exemplary start, the Lions have fallen to 3-4, losing their last three in a row. It looks like inconsistency will once again be a hallmark of the Lions; the very same thing that ended up costing them an NFC North title last year.
With Hundley under center, the Lions should be able to snap their US sportsbook losing streak. Despite this, it’s clear that good sportsbooks are having a hard time backing Detroit this Monday night, which is evident by how low the money line is for the Lions this Monday night. The home field advantage plays in the Packers favor and the fact that the team is coming off a Bye Week does as well. It just seems hard to pick Hundley over a proven quarterback like Matt Stafford.
