Betting Florida Gators
The Gators went 10-3 SU, 5-3 in SEC play, and per the best online sportsbooks, 9-4 ATS in 2018. UF was invited to the Peach Bowl, where they defeated No. 8 Michigan 41-15. As a result, Florida covered the legal betting online spread as four-point dogs. The school finished ranked in a tie for 7th in the AP poll, its highest final position since 2009.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Feleipe Franks finished with 2,457 passing yards with 24 passing touchdowns and seven rushing touchdowns. His touchdown total tied for third in the Southeastern Conference. Running backs Lamical Perine and Jordan Scarlett had 826 and 776 yards, respectively. On defense, defensive end Jachai Polite finished with 20 tackles for loss and was named first-team All-SEC. Florida ranked No. 28th in total defense, surrendering just 20 points, 180.8 passing yards, and 162.5 rushing yards per game. Franks and Perine are returning, but Scarlett and Polite were picks in the 2019 NFL draft.
Betting Miami Hurricanes
The Canes finished the 2018 season 7-6, 4-4 in ACC play, and 5-8 against the legal betting online spread. UM was invited to the Pinstripe Bowl which they lost to Wisconsin. Head coach Mark Richt announced his retirement on December 30. Manny Diaz was announced as their new head coach on the same day. Offensive and co-defensive coordinators Dan Enos, Blake Baker and Ephraim Banda complete the all-new coaching staff. Cornerback Michael Jackson and defensive end Joe Jackson were selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2019 NFL draft. Huh. What are the odds of that? And I don’t mean of them both being drafted by the same team. Another departure was that of starting QB Malik Rosier, who went undrafted following his senior year. Rosier accrued 4553 passing yards with 34 TDs and 25 picks in four seasons at Miami-Florida.
Redshirt sophomores N’Kosi Perry and Tate Martell, and redshirt freshman Jarren Williams are all vying for the open spot. Perry is the most experienced on the field and the most immature off of it. Diaz hopefully believes in learning from one’s mistakes. Because Perry has made more than his share of those as a player and as a person. In any case, whoever gets the job will have his work cut out for him. The Hurricanes finished 2018 No. 104 in total offense, with 28.8 points and 167.3 passing yards per game.
Florida Gators vs. Miami Hurricanes Betting Pick
This will be the 56th meeting between the Gators and the Canes and the first since 2013. Miami has won 12 of the last 16 encounters. This time, though, Florida is going to prevail 26-20. At least according to 247sports.com. “Right now, these two programs are at different points – one at a crossroads between top-tier and elite and the other starting fresh with first-year head coach Manny Diaz,” writes Brad Crawford. “This should be a great environment in Orlando between two rivals looking to make a splash to start the new season.”
I tend to agree, but your mileage may vary. I’m guessing it all comes down to whether you believe Feleipe Franks is going to breakout in 2019. “I want a fourth statue,” Florida Gators vs. Miami Hurricanes. He was of course referring to the three statues outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow; three Gator QBs who won the Heisman Trophy. Methinks one of those things is not like the others.
