Is there something seriously wrong with the Dallas Cowboys? They looked so impressive at the beginning of the season. But after that 3-0 start, they’ve now dropped three in a row. And they are fortunate that no one has taken “ownership” of the NFC East.
On Sunday night, the Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles will duke it out for first place in the division, in a game that begins at 8:20 PM ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX.
It goes nationwide on NBC, and BetAnySports customers will be able to watch the game and place wagers on it in progress as they take advantage of what’s available through Live Betting Ultra.
Here are the numbers………….
You’ll see here that the Cowboys are favorites at home, with reduced juice:

Okay, so what’s the problem?
Why are the Dallas Cowboys now slumping after that hot start, when they looked like a machine? Well, for one thing, the competition wasn’t fierce. The opener was against a Giants team that was on its way to changing quarterbacks. And then there was Washington and Miami, and that needs no further explanation. So everything’s relative, so maybe they weren’t so awesome to begin with.
The opponents have been better for at least two of these last three weeks. The New Orleans Saints have a much better defensive team than they had faced, and besides, they had studied footage of Kellen Moore’s offenses at Boise State to decipher the hand signals the Cowboys used. That’s not a lie. Green Bay took advantage of three interceptions of Dak Prescott and got off to a huge lead. So a Dallas rally fell short. And then they seemed flat-footed as the Jets showed a lot of enthusiasm about Sam Darnold’s return.
And offensive line injuries reared their ugly head. Tyron Smith has been out the last couple of games. And the Dallas offense has sometimes coincided with that All-Pro’s health. So you have to watch the situation. The same holds true, to a limited degree, with the other tackle, La’el Collins. He sat out last week’s game.
You’d have to really check the status of these offensive linemen. As you know, they are big in pass protection and also the ground game. The latter is something with magnified importance because of Amari Cooper’s quad injury. The Cowboys, obviously, are fortunate in that they have Ezekiel Elliott (491 yards). But the Eagles are about as good as it gets when it comes to stopping the run, as they allow only 3.3 yards per attempt. So we may see another week when the Cowboys don’t have a whole offense.
In conclusion…..
We found something interesting here. Philadelphia has converted on 50% of third downs while yielding only 34.7%. Dallas is at 50.7% conversions on offense, allowing just 25.4% on third down. The Cowboys have outgained their opponents by a wide margin.
Still (and injury information could affect this), we like the Eagles as a more functional team at the moment. They’re also hell-bent on payback, as they were swept by Dallas last year by scores of 27-20 and 29-23.
