Betting Indianapolis Colts
Indy is a touchdown-plus road fave at the best online sportsbooks. The 2022 season is the Indianapolis Colts’ 70th in the NFL, 39th in Indianapolis, sixth under the leadership of general manager Chris Ballard and fifth under head coach Frank Reich. They will aim to improve on their 9–8 record from 2021 and return to the playoffs after a one-year absence.
Even though they had seven Pro Bowlers and five AP All-Pros in 2021, the Colts did not improve on their 11–5 record from the previous season. Following a Week 12 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the Colts were eliminated from the playoffs in the last week of the season after a shocking loss to the 2–14 Jacksonville Jaguars plus the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the Baltimore Ravens the same day.
One day after the Colts lost rookie Drew Ogletree to a torn ACL, Jelani Woods demonstrated why he might be able to manage the increased role he will surely have to play in Indianapolis this season.
Woods caught three passes in 11-on-11 drills on Thursday’s practice. He showcased the size and speed that persuaded the Colts to invest a third-round pick on him in April. The large rookie opened practice with a pair of tough, contested catches in the middle from Nick Foles.
He reached behind himself in traffic to get the first and plucked the second out of the congested middle of the field. Then Woods displayed what he can do after a catch. Big and tough at 6-7, 253 pounds, Woods also ran the 40-yard dash in 4.61 seconds at the NFL combine. That blend of size and speed can be lethal in the open field. On his two catches from Foles, Woods made short work of Detroit defensive backs left and right, and blazed into the secondary.
Michael Pittman Jr. has hit the ground running with seasoned QB Matt Ryan from the get-go. From the beginning of training camp, he has been the new starter’s top target by far. He has hauled in 34 passes in 13 practices.
Betting Houston Texans
Texas is home dogs according to betting sites. The 2022 season is the Houston Texans’ 21st in the NFL and first under Lovie Smith, after they fired David Culley at the end of last season. For the first time since 2016, QB Deshaun Watson will not be on the roster. He was traded to the Cleveland Browns on March 18, 2022. So, you know, he’s somebody else’s problem now.
For the first time since 2010, defensive end J. J. Watt was not on the roster last season. He’d signed with the Arizona Cardinals on March 5, 2021, where he reunited with former Texans teammate DeAndre Hopkins, who was in turn traded to the Cardinals the previous season.
It was also the first time since 2013 without head coach Bill O’Brien. He has fired just four games into the 2020 season when the Texans started 0–4. Additionally, Deshaun Watson, starting QB since 2017, was inactive the full season as a result of a fallout with management as well as several allegations of sexual assault.
Though he wasn’t released, suspended, or placed on any reserve list, he was ruled out every single week for “non-injury-related” reasons. Veteran free agent Tyrod Taylor and rookie Davis Mills shared the starting quarterback role in Watson’s lieu throughout the season.
Texans Players
Because of injury and poor performance from Taylor, Mills would be the starting quarterback for the majority of the season. Mills finished the season with 2,664 passing yards, breaking the team’s record for most passing yards in a season by a rookie QB. After winning their season opener over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Texans would go on an eight-game losing streak before they beat the Tennessee Titans in week 11.
Following a Week 13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the Texans became the first team to be eliminated from the postseason for the second straight year. With a 41–29 upset win over the Los Angeles Chargers in week 16, the Texans matched their win total from the previous season. After the season, head coach David Culley and offensive coordinator Tim Kelly were let go. Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns in the ensuing off-season.
