The college football betting season is rolling into Week 5, and there are plenty of interesting games – not necessarily huge headliners, but important conference games that will tell us a lot more about the state of play and the balance of power in various parts of the country.
Oregon State vs. Utah Utes College Football Odds by BetAnySports
|Oregon State||+10½ ( -110 )||54½ ( -110 )||+315|
|Utah||-10½ ( -110 )||54½ ( -110 )||-380|
This is a very interesting game for a number of reasons, one being that Oregon State just played USC, one of the three teams expected to contend for the Pac-12 title at the start of the season. The other two primary Pac-12 title contenders are Oregon and Utah, which means Oregon State is facing two of the Pac-12’s top contenders in consecutive weeks. Oregon State held USC’s vaunted offense to just 17 points, but it lost the game because quarterback Chance Nolan threw four interceptions. Can Nolan avoid big mistakes and replace those errors with big plays? This is a very crucial test for Oregon State, which is trying to avoid losing consecutive conference games.
Utah hasn’t lost a game in the Pac-12, but it has lost to Florida. The Utes must win every remaining game to have any shot at the College Football Playoff. We will see how the Utes fare against one of the better opponents on their 2022 schedule. This is the toughest matchup for Utah since the Florida game in Week 1.
The other notable part of this game is that both tight ends are injured. Luke Musgrave probably won’t play for Oregon State, though maybe his injury status will change during the week. Utah tight end Brant Kuithe is out for the season, a crushing loss for the Utes. All in all, the Kuithe injury probably means Utah won’t be able to score in bunches, keeping this game close.
Pick: Oregon State +11.5
Wake Forest vs. Florida State Seminoles Odds by BetAnySports
|Wake Forest||+7 ( -120 )||64 ( -110 )||+220|
|Florida State||-7 ( EV )||64 ( -110 )||-260|
Wake Forest just lost to Clemson in overtime. The Demon Deacons have to pick themselves up and immediately regroup against a Florida State team which is undefeated heading into October. Florida State has been living right this season, beating LSU on a blocked extra point and getting some timely turnovers from Louisville in a win over the Cardinals. Wake Forest is not as likely to make those kinds of mistakes. The Demon Deacons will cover.
Pick: Wake Forest +7.5
San Diego State Aztecs vs. Boise State Broncos Odds by BetAnySports
|San Diego State||+6½ ( -110 )||39 ( -110 )||+210|
|Boise State||-6½ ( -110 )||39 ( -110 )||-250|
This is a game likely to feature a very low-scoring and ugly battle. San Diego State plays great defense and bad offense. Boise State just fired its offensive coordinator and watched quarterback Hank Bachmeier – a four-year veteran in the program – enter the transfer portal due to the mess the Broncos are dealing with. Neither team is likely to be able to pull away from the other, so San Diego State plus the six points makes a lot of sense as the pick for this game. The over-under is 39, and the under looks like a really good play. It’s unlikely that either team will reach 20 points in this game, which would mean the under would hit if that happens.
Pick: San Diego State +6
