The New England Patriots are 3.5-point2 home faves over the Los Angeles Chargers at sports betting websites for the 2019 AFC Divisional Playoffs. The Pats secured the AFC East title with a 24-12 win over Buffalo in Week 16. That was their 10th straight divisional championship. As a result, they matched the Atlanta Braves as the only two teams in American sports to achieve such a streak. The Patriots also tied the 1938-39 San Francisco 49ers for most straight 10-win seasons. Meanwhile, the Bolts beat the Baltimore Ravens 23-17 in their wild card game. According to the best online sportsbooks, the Chargers were three-point road dogs versus the Ravens.

Something will have to give when these two teams meet. The Bolts have not lost on the road since Week 3 against the Rams. The Chargers are 7-0 SU and ATS on the road since then. On the other hand, the Pats are 8-0 SU and 6-2 ATS at home this season.

Betting LA Chargers

Starting QB Philip Rivers threw for 4308 yards and 32 TDs this regular season. The Pats allowed just three passing TDs fewer than that. Moreover, New England ranked No. 22 in pass defense, conceding 246.4 yards through the air per game. Per sports betting sites, the Chargers are 3-3 SU and 5-1 ATS in six postseason games with the Octodad under center. Defensively, the Bolts sacked Baltimore rookie QB Lamar Jackson seven times. Then again, Lamar is no Tom Brady, now is he?

Betting New England

The Pats’ eight home wins included victories over the Chiefs, the Colts, the Texans, the Packers, and the Vikings. Those five and the other three wins came by an average of 16.2 points. The Patriots have not lost a postseason home game since 2013. In the Belichick/Brady era, New England is 12-2 SU and 8-5-1 ATS in 14 divisional games. And 19-9 SU and 13-15 ATS in 28 playoff day games. As well as 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS in the last six home playoff games. Also, 8-1 SU and 6-3 ATS in the last nine playoff games at home. Finally, 19-3 SU and 12-9-1 ATS in 22 home playoff games since 2000.

Betting Trends:

  • Chargers are 35-17-2 ATS in their last 54 road games
  • Chargers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games after allowing less than 150 yards passing in their previous game
  • Chargers are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing less than 250 total yards in their previous game
  • Patriots are 36-16 ATS in their last 52 games after allowing less than 150 yards passing in their previous game
  • Patriots are 20-9-1 ATS in their last 30 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game
  • Patriots are 35-16 ATS in their last 51 games after allowing less than 250 total yards in their previous game

Our Game Prediction: The Chargers have been electric lately. And the Patriots have been a bit underwhelming by their own standards. But like the Nature Boy Ric Flair is wont to say, to be the man you gotta beat the man. Say what you will about the Pats, but even a quote-unquote disappointing season is still filled with accolades. Such as Tom Brady setting a record for most career passing TDs (including playoffs). Regardless of the outcome, this will be New England’s last home game this season. I’ve no doubt they’ll remain perfect at Gillette Stadium. Having said that, we who are in the sports betting websites business care almost exclusively about the point spread. And in that sense, the logical thing to do is to take the Bolts to cover.
