The Bundesliga is up and running and operating full-bore. Of course, there are no fans in stadiums. But they have revived things and the league’s big stars seem to have come out of training in shape.
The trouble is that the league championship has all but been decided at this point. Bayern Munich is on track to win its eighth straight Bundesliga title. That means Borussia Dortmund is going to have to settle for second place for the fifth time in eight seasons. That is, if they can hold off challengers for the runner-up spot.
BetAnySports customers are undoubtedly happy that European soccer is back at many of its locations. And because of the long hiatus all the clubs had to go through, things are fresh again, even for the also-rans.
Next up for Dortmund — the lowest rung
Dortmund tries to march on. And they will do so on Sunday as they face off against Paderborn in a game that starts at Noon ET. Paderborn is the team that is sitting at the bottom of the Bundesliga right now. Whether you are aware of it or not, German soccer is a tiered system. And as recently as two seasons ago, Paderborn was actually in Bundesliga-3 (i.e., the third tier). So they are hardly a team with players experienced enough to be playing in one of the most formidable leagues in the world.
Here are the numbers…….
Let’s take a look at the odds on this game as they are listed at BetAnySports:

A little about Paderborn
Paderborn is a developing club. But it appears as if they will “develop” next season in Bundesliga-2, a victim of relegation. With 19 points, they are 18th in an eighteen-team league. And they trail the next team up the ladder (Werder) by six points, with just four victories in 28 games.
A little about Dortmund
Dortmund began this re-start of Bundesliga soccer with at least some hope of catching Bayern Munich, although it wasn’t likely. Well, now it’s almost impossible, especially after the 1-0 loss they suffered to Bayern in their last outing. As of this moment, they are trailing the defending champs by seven points. And their principal concern right now should be holding off Leverkusen, which is one point back of them, and RB Leipzig, which trails by two.
The X-Factor — Haaland’s injury
Dortmund will also be without a young superstar for Sunday’s action. Erling Haaland, who proved mighty explosive for RB Salzburg at Austria’s highest level, was immediately a sensation in the German Bundesliga. The 19-year-old scored five goals in his first two games, and he now has 13 for the season after being added only in January. Everybody wants him – even the richest teams in the world like Manchester United and Real Madrid. So Dortmund could command quite a transfer fee, or keep him (his contract runs through 2024).
But he suffered a knee injury against Bayern when he collided with an official. He will miss this game, but should return for the next match. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho, another 19-year-old, will be one of those people picking up the slack. Unlike Haaland, he’s been around for a while, active in his third season with Dortmund. But there has been growing interest in his services, from Real, Man-U, and even Bayern. And word from sources inside the team is that he has been thinking about all of that. Will it affect his productivity on the field?
Conclusion
It really shouldn’t matter all that much against bottom-feeding Paderborn, as Dortmund bounces back from its jarring loss with a win, whether that comes easily or not.
