When college basketball fans think of the Big 12 Conference Kansas immediately comes to mind. KU is a blueblood marquee name brand that carries the league in hoops. But despite winning yet another regular season title Kansas did not do much in the way of sportsbook bonuses. Overlays are a perpetual handicapping factor with the Jayhawks. Public money flows freely on their name. As a result, betting value drops greatly in most of their matchups. Which leads to this week’s Big 12 Conference Tournament. Plenty of alternatives to Kansas may emerge this week.

Big 12 Conference Tournament TV Coverage: ESPNU, ESPN2, ESPN

Opening Day of the Big 12 Tourney features two games on Wednesday. Thursday is an action-packed day with four games on the card. Winners from Wednesday will meet the top four teams in the league. Those top four are Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech and West Virginia. Final Four Big 12 action will feature a Friday doubleheader. ESPN televises the championship game on Saturday night.

Head coach Bill Self’s Kansas team broke even with the spread this year. Their lack of sportsbook bonuses was in spite of a 24-7 straight up record. Devonte Graham leads the nation’s 36th best offense with 18 points and seven assists per game. Self’s squad failed to bring home the bacon in six of their final nine games. Over the total paid in four of KU’s final six games. Countering the Jayhawks is a Texas Tech team known for outstanding defense. In fact, the Red Raiders ranked 16th in the nation for points allowed. Tech’s problem was an inconsistent offense.

West Virginia is an intriguing commodity. Although they were not profitable on the season they are tough. Head coach Bob Huggins has a good offensive team that is above average on defense. Best of all the Mounties play a full court game. WVU did get the money in five of their last nine games. Over the total cleared in West Virginia’s final three games.

Perhaps no team in college basketball disappointed more than Oklahoma. Trae Young emerged as a freshman phenom. Young led the Sooners with 28 points per game. OU peaked in January after an upset win over Kansas. Red ink drowned Oklahoma backers this year. Against the TopBet sportsbook lines they had 19 losses in 29 games. Lon Krueger has half a team as coach. Offensively OU ranked a spectacular fourth in the nation. Offsetting that and more was a disastrous defense that ranked 336th.

Matchup to Watch

Ultimately the Big 12 Tourney comes down to expected sportsbook bonuses on Kansas vs. the rest. West Virginia would seem to offer value but they never quite lived up to hype. Oklahoma proved it could beat Kansas and then collapsed. However, the Sooners won two of their last three to regain some momentum. As a classic beaten favorite OU ranks as a team that could bring enhanced wagering value.

Big 12 Conference Tournament NCAA Basketball Picks

Sure, Kansas brings the pedigree and the Big 12 regular season title. But the Jayhawks also know their ticket is already punched. Hungry Oklahoma must win the tournament to gain March Madness. Expect Trade Young to shoot them into the Big Dance!
