Betting Arizona Cardinals
The Cards are the road dogs as established by the best online sportsbooks. The Arizona roster will continue to fluctuate all through the weekend. They are considering signing released players from other teams. But the 53-man roster reduction deadline is 1 p.m. Arizona time on Saturday. As far as health goes, the roster is in good shape and very improved on theory from 2019. This means that there will be some hard decisions. Do the Cardinals want a third-string quarterback to add a little spice to the offensive weaponry? Do they allow a talented athlete who has yet to live up to his potential move on? Or will they find him a reserve role? Is it time to pull the plug on a young receiver who hasn’t had a chance to shine yet?
Cardinals signed Chris Streveler
The Cards raised many eyebrows when they signed Chris Streveler from the Canadian Football League in the offseason. That seemed strange with Brett Hundley already under contract and his prior experience with the Cardinals. However, if you ask head coach Kliff Kingsbury, they haven’t made a decision on the QB who will backup starter Kyler Murray. It looks like there is any type of competition is off, but that just speaks of how highly the Cardinals and Kingsbury value Streveler.
“We are still working through that,” Kingsbury said. “Both guys have had their moments. We want to continue to evaluate this week and go from there. Both are talented and athletic guys who can come in and allow us to run our offense like we would with Kyler.” Streveler is athletic, has the best pure arm on the roster, and a lot of experience in pro football. He is there to compete. However, it seemed like that was a year or two away and that we were going to see Streveler playing a Taysom Hill role in 2020. Could Streveler truly be the backup in 2020? Or would the Cards and Kingsbury be in the wrong walking away too early from Brett Hundley?
Betting San Francisco 49ers
The Niners are the home favorites set by top sportsbooks. The starting right guard was one of the biggest questions for the 49ers going into camp. There is less than a fortnight until the regular-season opener. Their questions are nowhere nearer being answered than they were when training camp began. Center Ben Garland, who was starting in lieu of Weston Richburg while he nurses a knee injury, hurt his ankle in camp. That leaves his status unclear for Week 1. It also leaves two spots open on the offensive front. Each of the players competing at right guard is competing at the center as well.
“We don’t know the health of Garland yet, how he’s going to be next week and how that’s going to go for both the positions. So, it’s kind of a nice situation for me because we know that we had a competition to see who is our starting right guard,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “And it’s kind of been hard to have a true just starting competition at right guard when both of those guys have got to be playing center and the possibility of starting at the center and what gives you your best combination for Week 1. So, all that’s going into play, which makes it to where I wouldn’t want to give you the answer, but I truly don’t know the answer anyway because of the situation. I know Garland is not going to be trying to come back until next week and we’re going to have to play that out, see how it goes and see what the best line up is.”
