Mikey Keene QB vs Jalen Mayden QB

In his first year as a starter, Mikey Keene has been excellent directing Fresno State’s offense. He is completing 66.6% of his passes and averages a solid 6.9 yards per attempt. Keene has shown good decision making as well, with 21 touchdowns to just 8 picks on the year. His 140.2 passer rating in conference games leads the Mountain West. While arm strength isn’t a strength, Keene knows how to manage the game and avoid mistakes. He should find success targeting Erik Brooks and the Bulldogs other playmakers against a porous Aztecs secondary on Saturday night.

Since taking over under center a few weeks ago, Jalen Mayden has struggled mightily leading San Diego State’s offense. While he averages a decent 6.4 yards per pass attempt, Mayden completes just 63% of his throws and has thrown 9 interceptions during the Aztecs’ current slide. He doesn’t get much help from a receiving corps that lacks explosive playmakers downfield either. Mayden will need to make quicker decisions and avoid turnovers giving Fresno State’s strong defense extra possessions on Saturday night.

Potent Bulldogs Offense

The Bulldogs have one of the most efficient offenses in the Mountain West behind quarterback Mikey Keene. Keene has thrown for over 2400 yards and 21 touchdowns this season, spearheading an aerial attack that averages 279 passing yards per game. His rapport with top wideout Erik Brooks will be a challenge for the Aztecs’ 115th-ranked pass defense to contain. On the ground, running back Malik Sherrod adds balance with his 5.4 yards per carry and 7 scores.

Struggling Aztecs Offense

For San Diego State, new starting quarterback Jalen Mayden has struggled since taking over a few weeks ago. He’s thrown 9 interceptions to just 9 touchdowns, symptomatic of an Aztecs offense averaging only 22 points during their current 1-8 skid. The bright spot is running back Jaylon Armstead, who leads the team with 7 rushing touchdowns. However, with the Bulldogs allowing just 16 points over their last 3 contests, Armstead will need plenty of help moving the chains on Saturday night.

NCAAF Betting Odds: Fresno State Bulldogs -197, Over/Under: 47.5

With Fresno State heavily favored on the road by 5 points, the sportsbooks expect them to win handily on Saturday night. The total is set at 47.5 points in what oddsmakers anticipate being a lower scoring affair.

Fresno State Bulldogs vs. San Diego State Aztecs Betting Picks

The betting trends clearly favor the red-hot Bulldogs as 5-point favorites over the scuffling Aztecs on Saturday night. Fresno State is scoring over 33 points per game during their current 5-1 surge, while San Diego State averages just 267 total yards on offense – good for 125th in the nation. Even playing on the road, top betting sites in USA predict coach Tedford’s efficient offense led by Mikey Keene will simply overpower the struggling Aztecs.

Look for the Bulldogs to control the line of scrimmage and time of possession behind a heavy dose of Malik Sherrod. That ball control attack should allow their defense to fluster quarterback Jalen Mayden into more costly turnovers as well. With Fresno State primed for another lopsided conference victory, back the Bulldogs -5.
