The New England Patriots are, according to NFL betting sites, +600 favorites to win Super Bowl LIV, which will take place on February 2nd, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The Not So Usual Suspects – Super Bowl Favorites Odds

  • New England Patriots +600
  • Kansas City Chiefs +600
  • New Orleans Saints +900
  • Los Angeles Rams +1200
  • Indianapolis Colts +1200

It has been beaten to the ground, but it’s true. Oh it’s true, it’s damn true! (shoutout to Kurt Angle). As long as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick ply their trade in New England, the Pats will sit astride the oddsboards. Those two can run the team by themselves. Just like Mr. Burns and Smithers ran the nuclear plant in Last Exit to Springfield. Just look at Brady. When he’s not throwing touchdown passes, he’s throwing his six-year-old daughter down a waterfall.

The Patriots won Super Bowl LIII as 2.5-point chalk, per the best online sportsbooks. To be fair, though, the Los Angeles Rams weren’t ready for the big time. I mean, in order to earn a Super Bowl berth, the Rams had to beat the New Orleans Saints. And they did not beat the Saints; ergo, they were not deserving of a betting Super Bowl spot. And it showed. Boy, did it show. Another team that couldn’t defeat the Pats was the Kansas City Chiefs. Not even when favored by three points by NFL betting sites in the AFC Championship Game.

Brady and Drew Brees are members of the old guard. Pat Mahomes and Jared Goff are among the new elite. And Andrew Luck is sort of in-between, but I think he’ll be trending upward as the 2019 season progresses. Luck came back with a vengeance in 2018, and something tells me he’s far from done.

Hype and hope – Second on Odds to Win SuperBowl

  • Cleveland Browns +1200
  • Los Angeles Chargers +1.00
  • Philadelphia Eagles +1300
  • Chicago Bears +1600
  • Green Bay Packers +2200
  • Pittsburgh Steelers +2500

I feel like the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers places should get switched here. Everybody really wants the Browns to do well, and NFL betting sites are apparently not the exception. And now that they are finally rid of Hue Jackson, they will most definitely do better. But the Steelers also shed a lot of dead weight; namely Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. Whereas Cleveland acquired Odell Beckham Jr., who could potentially detract more from the team than he brings.

Let’s see what else we have. The Philadelphia Eagles have pretty much gone down the same road as the Atlanta Falcons; I wouldn’t trust them. The Los Angeles Chargers can only go so far before they crumble under pressure. The Chicago Bears’ offense needs to get on par with their defense. Mitchell Trubisky improved in his second year; now the rest of the offense needs to catch up. Finally, you simply can never write off Aaron Rodgers. He may not be the best, but he’s better than the rest.

Comme ci comme ça – Third on Odds to Win the Super Bowl 54

  • Minnesota Vikings +2600
  • Dallas Cowboys +2600
  • Seattle Seahawks +2900
  • San Francisco 49ers +4000
  • Atlanta Falcons +3400
  • Houston Texans +3400
  • Jacksonville Jaguars +3400
  • Baltimore Ravens +4100
  • Carolina Panthers +4100
  • Denver Broncos +6700
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers +10000
  • Oakland Raiders +12500
  • New York Jets +7000
  • Tennessee Titans +9000

You could call this batch soft adult contemporary because they’re as middle of the road as it gets. Take the Falcons for instance. They’re oldies though still goodies, to continue the AM radio metaphor. However, these Falcons may have already peaked and losing a Super Bowl may be their ultimate claim to fame. Ditto the Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton. You can never rule out a latter-day renaissance, but in this case you almost can. The Jacksonville Jaguars took a million steps forward by shit-canning Blake Bortles. And then they took a few steps back by signing Nick Foles. All in all, the Khans might be more concerned with their wrestling ventures at the moment. The Jets made a similar move as the Jags, exchanging Todd Bowles for Adam Gase. I would say that the Houston Texans are the best value from this bunch. Better even than the Cowboys.

The back of the line for Super Bowl 54 Odds

  • New York Giants +10100
  • Detroit Lions +10100
  • Arizona Cardinals +10100
  • Buffalo Bills +10100
  • Washington Redskins +10100
  • Cincinnati Bengals +12600
  • Miami Dolphins +15100

The Arizona Cardinals are so awful that Kyler Murray is the only thing from being rock bottom. The Bengals are likely firing the Red Rifle’s last shots. And Hard Rock Stadium hosting the Super Bowl pretty much means doom for the Dolphins. Still, I believe Miami could be the better from the worse. That they had the sense to fire Gase shows they want to improve.
