The 2024 NFL betting schedule has been released, so now is the perfect time to start planning those road trips. It’s also the time to eye the projected win totals of each team and wager accordingly.

Those totals were released pretty much after last season. There hasn’t been much movement around the numbers until now (though not always the case), even after free agency and the draft.

Betting on win totals is always a great option to consider. Here are four such wagers…

Atlanta Falcons Over 9½ Wins

The Atlanta Falcons received a ton of flak immediately after last month’s draft. The team shocked everyone by selecting former U. of Washington standout quarterback Michael Penix at

No. 8 overall. That was after the free-agent signing of former Minnesota Viking Kirk Cousins.

Should Cousins get hurt (again), then Penix would get the nod. Atlanta has acquired some skill-position players on offense, now with the quarterback(s) to deliver the ball.

Another reason to jump all over the Falcons over 9½ wins is the fact this team plays in the putrid NFC South Division. The worst division in the league should allow Atlanta to pad its total.

Atlanta is a -325 proposition to make the playoffs (5-2, [+250]) it doesn’t qualify, according to NFL playoff odds at BetUS sportsbook.

Chicago Bears Over 8½ Wins

It was the general consensus that the Chicago Bears were the biggest winners at the draft, but they were in a position that made it hard not to. As was mentioned, a few teams saw their original win figures altered, and the Bears were one of them.

Chicago had an over/under line set at 6½ wins, but that number is now sitting at 8½.

Immediately after drafting Southern Cal’s Caleb Williams at No. 1, he was named as the starter. The quarterback can toss to Rome Odunze, as the ex-U. of Washington, the wideout was chosen with the ninth pick. There’s also former Los Angeles Charger weapon Keenan Allen.

Chicago was a good defensive team last season, and now the offense can carry its weight. It’s not impossible to envision the Bears making the playoffs. Chicago will make a run at the NFC North title this season, winning at least nine games along the way.

Detroit Lions Under 10½ Wins

The Detroit Lions won their first division title in forever last season, making it all the way to the title game in the NFC. Detroit blew a sizable halftime lead on the road against the San Francisco 49ers, thus missing a terrific shot of getting to their first-ever Super Bowl.

Detroit did surprise some opponents last season, but won’t have that same luxury in 2024.

Signing quarterback Jared Goff to a long-term extension should cement the offense, with no doubt that the Lions can move the needle (27.4 points per game, fifth in 2023). There are serious question marks on defense, however (having surrendered 23.8 points/game and 348 yards/game, both bottom portions in rankings).

There’s also more balance in the NFC North than in recent seasons. It won’t be easy to gain ‘restore the roar’. While still winning their share of games, go under 10½ with the Detroit Lions.

Los Angeles Chargers Under 8½ Wins

Any way you looked at them, the Los Angeles Chargers were a mess last season. Hence, the change at head coach. Jim Harbaugh, fresh off his national championship at Michigan, left sanctions/violations behind and returned to the pros.

Though dysfunction in the Brandon Staley era ruled the Bolts, Justin Herbert is as elite a quarterback as anyone. He now has his position coach back as well.

Herbert’s fractured right index finger prematurely ended his 2023, and now the question is who’s catching his tosses. Keenan Allen is off the Windy City, while Mike Williams is now a New York Jet. Herbert now has ex-UGA Bulldog Ladd McConkey and former USC Trojan Brenden Rice.

LA is going to be better this season, but still well behind some of the top teams in the AFC. Wager accordingly and expect below .500 with the Chargers.

Here’s the complete current over/under list, as per NFL regular-season wins.
