Their fight is slated to begin at around 11:50 PM ET on the UFC PPV telecast for those who are signed up with ESPN Plus.

They have met before…..
McGregor and Poirier crossed paths back in September 2014. And looking back on it, Poirier understands that he was already beaten before the start. He explains that as the two were getting ready to go into the Octagon, McGregor gave him a certain look. And there was something in that look that “messed with my head,” according to Poirier.
What ensued was perhaps a low point in the Louisiana native’s career. McGregor came out and mowed him down with strikes, ending things in the very first round.
But to his credit, the man they call “The Diamond” brought himself back.
About Dustin Poirier
He’s got a record of 26-6 with twelve knockouts, seven submissions and seven decisions. By those numbers, his offensive arsenal is more versatile than that of McGregor.
He is a former competitor in World Extreme Cagefighting who won the interim lightweight championship in the UFC. He’s beaten a number of capable people, including Justin Gaethje, who he knocked out at UFC on Fox 29.
In September 2019 he lost by third-round submission to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a title fight. Then, fighting last June, he won a decision over Dan Hooker on an ESPN card.
Poirier is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu who is active in charities and markets his own line of hot sauce.
About Conor McGregor
McGregor is more or less a one-dimensional fighter. In his 22-4 record he has 19 knockouts and two decision wins, but only one decision. Clearly he has to keep things in the stand-up, and he is indeed a very skilled striker. And even if you’re not familiar with MMA, you saw that he knows how to use his hands. That’s because he was able to go ten rounds in a crossover fight against Floyd Mayweather.
McGregor is the only fighter to win both the lightweight and featherweight titles in the UFC. He lost to Nate Diaz but won the rematch in resounding fashion. But he was beaten with a neck crank by Khabib in October of 2018. There has been talk of a rematch, but that has never happened. Last time out, he blew away the out-gunned Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in 40 seconds of the first round. McGregor may move on to fight Manny Pacquiao in the ring for a nine-figure payday.
BetOnline’s got lots of props on the big event……
You don’t just have to bet on the winner or the numbers of rounds this fight is going to last. There are some prop bets available that explore other angles.
For example, here is a three-way prop giving you prices on each of the fighters winning inside the distance, as well as the odds on a decision:
Fighter Wins Inside Distance:
Odds | |
---|---|
Conor McGregor | -200 |
Dustin Poirier | +400 |
Goes to Decision | +300 |
If you are sure this fight will NOT go the distance and want to eliminate the “decision” from the prop altogether, you can go this way:
Win Inside Distance – Goes Distance = No Action:
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Conor McGregor | -500 |
Dustin Poirier | +350 |
So you’ve got some flexibility there.
The “Round Betting” is a lot of fun. And you can get really specific with it. So for example, if you believe Poirier is going to pull the upset, and do so in the first round, you can place a wager on that. You would get +1000 (10-1) on that. But as we explained before, Poirier can win in different ways. So you can bet on that method specifically. Poirier by “KO, TKO or DQ” is priced at +175. A first-round submission win by Poirier is posted at +2800 (28-1). You can do this for either fighter and for either outcome, for any of the five rounds.
And then you can bet on the exact result, regardless of the round:
Props | Odds |
---|---|
Conor McGregor by KO/TKO or DQ | -200 |
Dustin Poirier by Points | +550 |
Conor McGregor by Points | +600 |
Dustin Poirier by KO/TKO or DQ | +600 |
Dustin Poirier by Submission | +1000 |
Conor McGregor by Submission | +2500 |
Draw | +6600 |
