The Kansas City Chiefs have held a certain degree of dominance over the Las Vegas Raiders for years. Of course, this goes back to the Oakland days. But Jon Gruden’s team pulled off what was considered a shocker by some on October 11. That was at Arrowhead Stadium. And on that day Gruden got a big game out of his quarterback, who out-dueled the reigning league MVP.

These Chiefs and Raiders will have their rematch, God willing, on Sunday night before the NBC cameras. Game time is 8:20 PM ET.

Let’s take a look at the Sunday Night Football Odds

At BetOnline, the Chiefs are the road favorites, laying quite a few points:

Team SP/RL TOTAL ML
Chiefs -6½ (-120) 57 (-106) -300
Raiders +6½ (EV) 57 (-114) +245

Raiders suffering from virus woes

There are no less than ten players on the defensive side of the ball who are being affected by COVID-19. And they are engaged in self-isolation.

Raiders’ defensive coordinator Paul Guenther sounded rather defeatist in a video conference this week. And even though it is possible that he is playing possum, he nonetheless has pretty good reason to feel that way.

“I don’t know how we can beat these guys with a full lineup at practice, let alone three-fourths of your lineup not here all week,” he said.

If you recall just a few weeks ago, Las Vegas had all kinds of problems on the offensive line, with the virus being part of it. And Gruden was very upset because he didn’t believe the NFL should have mandated that his team take the field that day.

Can Carr have another big day?

If the defense fails, there will be more pressure on Derek Carr. The Raider quarterback has had a Pro Bowl-level season. And against Kansas City the first time around he was brilliant, throwing for 347 yards and three TD’s and achieving his highest quarterback rating of the season.

Carr has thrown only two interceptions in 283 attempts thus far.

On the other side, though, no one should be selling Patrick Mahomes short. Previously against the Raiders, he completed only 51% of this throws, but had 340 yards. He has 25 touchdowns and only ONE interception. That means he has at least a chance to set the NFL record for the best TD-INT ratio for a season.

Victory lap didn’t sit well with Chiefs

There is a story circulating that after they beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, the Raiders’ team bus did a little “victory lap” around the ballpark. And that is something that reportedly ticked off the KC players and coaching staff. So aside from the usual revenge angle, there is that little extra incentive to consider.

Other important angles to consider

The Chiefs are coming off their bye week. And that has always been a good spot for coach Andy Reid. In his career, Reid’s teams have won 18 out of 21 games after a bye.

In addition to that, Kansas City is a legitimate road warrior. They have won eight straight away from home, covering seven of those games. Remember that the Raiders are in a new place (Allegiant Stadium), have no fans in attendance, and have already lost to Tampa Bay and Buffalo at that venue.

In conclusion….

There appears to be no reason not to expect the Chiefs to be focused. And they should have what it takes to exploit their personnel edge, with the Raiders’ Covid concerns. So laying the points here isn’t a big stretch.
