NFL Betting Week 12 Browns vs. Dolphins Reduced Odds and Picks
The Miami Dolphins have been performing beyond expectations for a while. In fact, they had covered five straight games according to legal betting sites. Then they ran into the Buffalo Bills, where the roof fell in early. They were never able to catch up. Even though they have been playing hard, are they going to be able to stay within double digits against a talented team like the Cleveland Browns?
Cleveland has rebounded with a couple of victories after a four-game losing streak that really had them spinning. How “for real” are they right now?
We’ll see, as the Dolphins and Browns meet in Cleveland on Sunday at 1 PM ET. It will be televised by CBS on a regional basis. If you are a BetAnySports customer, you can place wagers while you watch the game with Sports Betting Ultra.
Did we see the “true” Dolphins last week?
Look, everybody knows that the Dolphins lack talent and depth. With a big effort, they were good enough to beat teams that were among the lower rung of the NFL, or those who were operating short-handed. But Buffalo came into Miami motivated and healthy. The Dolphins got behind early. And they wound up surrendering more points than anyone else had to the Bills this season.
Miami can’t get the balance
Miami is down to about nothing in the running game. They ran 13 times for 23 yards last Sunday. Kalen Ballage has nine yards on nine carries. So they are going to have a hard time running the ball to provide balance. And if Ryan Fitzpatrick has to drop back to pass all the time, his offensive line isn’t good enough to hold up. The Dolphins catch a break that Myles Garrett is on suspension. Otherwise, things could be worse.
In terms of “covering”
While the Dolphins were on a bit of a point spread run, the Browns have played ten games this season and covered only three of them.
And speaking of point spreads….
Here are the numbers…..
In the NFL betting odds posted on this game at BetAnySports, fueled with reduced juice, the Browns are the double-digit favorites:
Cleveland Browns vs. Miami Dolphins NFL Week 12 Odds
|Dolphins||+10½ (-110)||46 (-115)||+400|
|Browns||-10½ (-110)||46 (-105)||-525|
Did last week tell us about the Browns?
The Browns created some breaks for themselves against the Steelers in their Thursday night game. They intercepted Mason Rudolph four times. And they also shut down what Pittsburgh on the ground. This was central to the proceedings since the Steelers had to support their quarterback. It wasn’t a banner day for Baker Mayfield (17 of 32 for 193 yards). But Nick Chubb was steady, with 27 carries for 92 yards. Since he was installed as the team’s #1 back, Chubb has averaged 107.5 yards from scrimmage.
Now Cleveland has activated Kareem Hunt, who had been suspended for the first eight games of the season. He actually caught six passes last week, so that looks like it is going to be his role. Did his arrival come too late?
Have things calmed down on Cleveland’s end?
One of the stories surrounding the Browns this season is the state of the locker room. It seems that Mayfield came out too cocky. And Odell Beckham always brings something strange into the situation. Freddie Kitchens made a big leap to the position of head coach. And the opinion of many is that he could have been overwhelmed by the whole thing, particularly the expectations surrounding the Browns this year. Who knows whether that might still be the case.
Are the Browns getting ready to make a race of this thing? They were expected to go in that direction; that’s for sure. If all the weaknesses of the Dolphins are exploited, this can be a “no contest.” And I don’t think the absence of Garrett makes the ultimate difference here. The huge problem with Miami has been putting together two halves of football. They also don’t seem to have much in the running game, have lost Preston Williams, who appeared to be the most promising receiver, can’t get the ground game going, and can’t protect. They also have to sit their best defensive backs. Let’s take a shot with the desperate Browns and lay the points.
