NFL Week 13 Picks: How Much Does the Bengals’ ‘Mutiny’ Really Mean?

Miami Dolphins Betting Odds, Stats and expert predictions

The Cincinnati Bengals were making some progress after putting quarterback Joe Burrow into the starting lineup. But, well, they lost that momentum when he suffered knee injuries that ended his season.

Now BetAnySports patrons have had the opportunity to see what they look like without Burrow. And it is not a pretty picture. Apparently there is more ugliness under the surface as they get ready to play the Miami Dolphins.

The game takes place Sunday at 1 PM ET at Hard Rock Stadium in south Florida.

Bengals – Burrow gets injured

Playing against Washington, Burrow suffered both a torn MCL and ACL. It’s a shame, as he was among the NFL leaders in passing yardage. The Bengals didn’t do the thing where they were going to let him sit, watch and learn. Somebody like Andy Dalton may have fit in that way. But Dalton wasn’t necessarily on board with that. He also got upset when the team didn’t give him enough notice to arrange a trade after they drafted Burrow.

That kind of foreshadows what we’re going to talk about next. But the next step for head coach Zac Taylor was to move with a substitute quarterback.

The guy they settled on was on the practice squad. Brandon Allen was familiar with the system from when he was with the Rams. He also had starting experience with the Denver Broncos last year. So he became the choice, over Ryan Finley.

Allen had a relatively rough time. He was 17 of 29 for 136 yards, and the Bengals had 155 total yards. Still, they were able to hang in with the Giants, losing 19-17. But they were aided by a kickoff return touchdown, as well as an injury to Giants’ QB Daniel Jones.

Bengals – Trouble below the surface

There seems to be some kind of problem that’s been brewing between Bengal players and the coaching staff. It has been said that Zac Taylor does not communicate well with the team. And that extends to the members of the coaching staff, who have apparently been “abusive.”

Carlos Dunlap didn’t like the atmosphere at all, and he requested a trade. He got shipped off to Seattle. Wide receiver John Ross, who was a first-round pick, wanted out too. They haven’t made a move with him yet. There have been other players who have spoken anonymously to the media.

The feeling is that Taylor, who came into his job as the NFL’s youngest head coach, may not last beyond this season. And perhaps grist for the rumor mill involves the success Joe Brady has had as Carolina’s offensive coordinator. Brady, of course, was Burrow’s mentor at LSU, and that ended with a Heisman Trophy and a national championship. The Bengals obviously have to look to the future.

These are things that have to be taken into consideration. And we say that especially since the Bengals have a 2-8-1 record. Morale can’t be high.

But it’s interesting that since the beginning of last season, Cincinnati has lost 13 games by eight points or less.

As of this writing, Miami hasn’t settled on a starting quarterback. Coach Brian Flores has told reporters that Tua Tagovailoa would be the starter if he was healthy. But there is concern about a thumb injury.

Whatever happens with the Dolphins’ offense, the defense – which is best in the league on third down – should keep the Bengals under control. So the UNDER should get a long look here.
