The Seattle Seahawks are ready to pounce. That’s because by the time they take the field on Monday night they will know whether they can tie San Francisco for the NFC West lead. Knowing that the Niners have to play Baltimore, they know there’s a good chance of that.
The Minnesota Vikings are tied for the NFC North lead with Green Bay. Even if these teams don’t capture division titles, they are in pretty good shape for wild card spots. It is under this scenario that the teams meet on ESPN. Game time is 8:15 PM ET at CenturyLink Field. Minnesota shows balance
There is no doubt that Mike Zimmer is getting to do what he couldn’t do last year. Dalvin Cook has been healthy, and the Vikings have actually run the ball more than they’ve passed it. Cook has already surpassed the 1000-yard barrier, and with a 4.8-yard average, he’s going to put his team in good position on third downs. Kirk Cousins is maligned in some circles.
But he’s put up some good numbers, since he’s had better spots in which to throw it. Cousins has completed close to 71%, with 21 touchdown passes. He’s averaged 8.6 yards per attempt, with just three interceptions. The Vikings have also done a relatively good job keeping his jersey clean (22 sacks).
Some of this has been done with Adam Thielen. The Pro Bowl receiver, who’s had injury problems, has caught just 27 passes. Remember that he had 113 receptions last year. He is listed as questionable for Monday’s game with a hamstring injury. His presence would help, to put it mildly.
Here are the numbers…….
Let’s take a look at the Monday Night Football betting odds, as they have been posted at BetAnySports:
Minnesota Vikings vs. Seattle Seahawks NFL Week 13 Odds
Team | SP/RL | TOTAL | ML | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Vikings | +3 (-120) | 50 (-110) | +130 | |
Seahawks | -3 (EV) | 50 (-110) | -150 | |
And remember that you can avoid having to lay the customary -110 when you access reduced juice!
Seattle is a road warrior. At home, not so much….
The Seahawks have won all six of their road games this season. And that included a trip to Santa Clara, where they dealt the San Francisco 49ers their only loss. But at CenturyLink Field, they have gone 1-4 against the number. This included straight-up losses to New Orleans and Baltimore and a one-point victory over winless Cincinnati. So how much of a home-field edge can they exhibit? That’s an interesting question to ponder.
Wilson – MVP candidate?
Lost in a lot of the fanfare about Lamar Jackson is the MVP candidacy of Russell Wilson. And we say that even after a lackluster effort against Philadelphia last week. Wilson went 13-for-25 and 200 yards in the 17-9 win, and tossed an interception.
His ratio of 24 touchdowns to two INT’s has been outstanding to say the least. He’s run a little (271 yards), but that has not been a regular staple of his repertoire. The key thing you have to look at is the won-lost record (9-2 SU, and 6-5 ATS).
In conclusion…….
At this point we believe Wilson can pretty much do anything. And the emergence of Rashaad Penny may not be a mirage. The team’s first-round pick in 2018 had 129 yards on 14 carries against the Eagles. That includes a 58-yard touchdown. He is averaging 5.9 yards per carry.
Minnesota is always going to have a capable defense with Zimmer. But Seattle was certainly able to run on them in last year’s meeting. And Wilson has new big play threats in rookie DK Metcalf (16.6 yards a catch) and Josh Gordon, who was recently signed.
We’d like to see if Jadaveon Clowney can play. He could be the “wild card” here, putting pressure on Cousins. But he is questionable with a hip injury.
These offenses are efficient, while the stop units, though capable, are still penetrable. The “over” isn’t a bad option on this game.
