Linebacker Von Miller, the Broncos’ franchise record-setter for the most career sacks, was traded to the Rams mid-season. The Broncos’ ranked 3rd in scoring defense. Their defense also ranked in the top 10 in total yards and passing yards. However, the offense ranked in the bottom 10 in points scored. They scored 30-plus points only twice. They failed to reach 20 points in 9 of 17 games. This resulted in the firing of head coach Vic Fangio following three seasons.

They finished last in their division for the first time since 1996 when they were in the AFC West. They were eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since 2017. The Seahawks struggle defensively and ranked dead last in total yards allowed.

They gave up a total of 2,254 yards in the first five games. They were on pace to allow the most yards in a season in league history for the second consecutive year. The Seahawks surrendered 6,445 yards (379.1 per game). Russell Wilson missed a game for the first time in his career. He missed three games after he injured his middle finger in Week 5 against the Rams.

It was also the final season with QB Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner on the roster. Wagner was released on March 9, 2022. He signed a five-year deal worth up to $65 million with defending Super Bowl LVI champions the Los Angeles Rams on March 31.

Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos with a 4th round pick for QB Drew Lock, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, tight end Noah Fant, two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a fifth round pick on March 16. Both were the last members from the 2013 Super Bowl-winning team.
The Seattle Seahawks have settled on Geno Smith as their starting quarterback when Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos come to Lumen Field on September 12.
