March Madness betting action is right around the corner. This week we’ve been looking to help offshore sportsbook betting players get ready for this year’s NCAA Tournament by offering all sorts of March Madness betting tips. We continue this trend today by offering an in depth look at how to make the most of the First Round of March Madness. Take a look.
What is the First Round?
First and foremost is establishing what the First Round of the March Madness tournament is. Before, the First Round referred to the two full days of the event, usually scheduled on Thursday and Friday. However, when the NCAA introduced the First Four, a final opportunity for some teams to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, the First Round now began to be used as a moniker for this stage of the tourney. What was previously thought of as the First Round is now referred to as the second round. But for the sake of brevity, we’ll be referring to both the first and second rounds in this offshore sportsbook betting article.
First Round Betting Tips
The most important thing to do right away is to balance or handicap each team’s success, both straight up and against the spread. For example, one team could be coming off a highly successful season. However, if most of that success came at home, sportsbooks might give that team too much undeserved value. Subsequently, this opens the door for bettors to come in and make a pretty penny.
One of the safest routes to take is to wager on the No. 5 vs. No. 12 seed matchups. For reasons not quite known, the underdog seems to win this matchup 33% of the time. More often than not, a minimum of one No. 12 seed will win straight up. This makes them an excellent option when betting straight up or even on the spread. The spread is especially a great option because offshore sportsbooks will tend to set the line around 10 points.
Keeping in line with that logic, it’s almost always to take a lower ranked program; 10, 11, 12, or 13, against the spread. Since they’ll be going up against one of the higher-ranked seeds in the tournament, bookies tend to set the spread extremely high. More often than not, this strategy pans out.
Another good strategy to employ is to bet on small favorites, even more so if they’re the lower-ranked opponent. Additionally, remember to take conferences into account. Finding low-level success in the ACC is better than finding high-level success in almost any other program. Lastly, don’t forget to account for momentum. A team with low-level talent can knock off a top dog if they have the right level of energy.
Finding the Best Online Sportsbook
While these March Madness betting tips are all fine and dandy, one of the most important aspects of NCAA betting is finding the best online sportsbook. Choosing the right betting site can be the difference between making several dozen bets, or being limited to just one option. The reason being that different sites offer different bonuses, with one site possibly being able to double the number of bets you make.
Obviously, more bets equals more winnings. That’s why today we’re recommending Intertops sportsbook. Intertops has a great interface but more importantly they have tremendous bonuses to let you make as many March Madness bets as possible.
