Most if not all betting sites favor Charlatan and Tiz the Law to win the 2020 Belmont Stakes. This will be the 152nd running of the Belmont Stakes and the 109th time the event will take place at Belmont Park. The race is one of the three legs of the American Triple Crown, open to three-year-old Thoroughbreds. As a result of concerns related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the race, normally the last Triple Crown race of the season, will be the first in the 2020 Triple Crown series. Moreover, it will be run at 1 1⁄8 miles (9 furlongs) having been run at 1 1⁄2 miles (12 furlongs) since 1926. But back to the business at hand, not everybody concurs with the best online sportsbooks. For example, horse racing insider Jody Demling.

According to CBS Sports.com, “Demling enters the 2020 Belmont Stakes on a major heater on his horse racing picks. He has the picked the winner in five straight races: the Saudi Cup, Gotham Stakes, Rebel Stakes, Louisiana Derby and Florida Derby.” Additionally, “when it comes to the Belmont, Demling has delivered plenty of memorable paydays.” For instance, he picked Tapwrit to win the 2017 edition of the race over Irish Cry, who was heavily favored by betting sites. Demling won “not just his exacta, but also his trifecta and superfecta, which paid out nearly $4,500 on a $2 bet”. Furthermore, he was big on Justify to win the 2018 Belmont Stakes, which he did wire-to-wire. That’s all well and good, but what about last year. After all, this business is all about one question; “what have you done for me lately?”
Charlatan Super Talented
In any case, Demling doesn’t buy into the Charlatan hype. The son of Speightstown, “is super talented” but is still wet behind the ear. He believes Charlatan could be ready for the big time later this year, but isn’t worth the premium users of betting sites would have to pay for him right now. On the other hand, Demling really likes longshot Dr. Post. Dr Post has won twice ahead of his entry into the 2020 Belmont Stakes field. The Todd Pletcher-trained horse won a maiden special weight race in March as well as the Unbridled Stakes at Gulfstream in April.
The latter was an impressive win; Dr Post overcame big traffic issues and came out on top in his stakes-race debut. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., a two-time Eclipse Award-winner jockey, maneuvered Dr Post’s fateful voyage in the 1 1/16-mile stakes race for three-year-olds. Demling surmises that Dr Post could be “a future superstar”, and is convinced the horse ought to be a major part of your 2020 Belmont Stakes bets. He is, isn’t he?
As a matter of fact, Demling has released his early picks for the 2020 Belmont Stakes, predicting where every horse will finish. Sort of like the ending of Animal House but with horses. Here’s the kicker, though. In order to become privy to Demling’s infinite wisdom, you have to join Sportsline.com. You know what they say; you have to spend money to make money. There’s just this one doubt nagging me. If he’s so good at picking winners, how come he needs our money? Actually, I don’t necessarily disagree with the Charlatan thing. It’s been mentioned elsewhere that his competition has been weaker than Rocky Balboa’s before he fought Clubber Lang. then again, the favorite has won the Belmont Stakes just twice in the last 11 races (including Justify). So fading the favorite is not as insightful as it might seem.
Who would I pick at these still early stages? I’d go with Nadal. I think this Bob Baffert-trained colt has the potential to upset both Charlie and Tizz.
